Posted April 7, 200817 yr I have a parakeet of about three or four years who seems to have some type of growth on his cere. It is tan and flaky. He is an indoor bird and doesn't come in contact with anything from the outside world. What could he have?
April 7, 200817 yr could you please post a picture it is hard to determine what it could be, thank you
April 7, 200817 yr Could be a few things like Scaley face post a picture so ..... we can try and help
April 7, 200817 yr Sounds like scaly face...can remain dormant in the system and pop up with various forms of stress. Easily treated with spot on ivermectin from the vet. Scaly face at its worst http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...&artlang=en  and here http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....p;hl=scaly+face Edited April 7, 200817 yr by KAZ
April 7, 200817 yr :ygbudgie: Do post a picture but my elderly budgie Happy used to have a build up of wax/cerumen on her cere every so often and my vet just told me to peel it off which I did with ease and she could breathe more easily. For some reason this doesn't happen anymore for which I am glad as she is a biter!

April 7, 200817 yr Beak doesnt appear to be crusty....just the cere and thats pretty normal for a hen unless she has blocked nostrils or something..... Edited April 7, 200817 yr by KAZ
April 7, 200817 yr :ygbudgie: VERY gently try and peel it off, otherwise avian vet care is required. Good Luck!!! :hap:

April 7, 200817 yr Now that we have worked out your "out of breeding condition HEN" ....tell us HER name isnt Charlie or Ralph or Butch or anything else masculine
April 7, 200817 yr Author Serria, but one of those parakeets with more of a purple cere. Makes life confusing.
April 8, 200817 yr About how long should she be like this? As Phoebe said, see if it will peel away. They rub their head on the perches and the crusty part comes off, but it will also just peel away if you gently lift it...helps them to breathe a little better :yellowhead: Edited April 8, 200817 yr by KAZ
