Featured Replies

I have a parakeet of about three or four years who seems to have some type of growth on his cere. It is tan and flaky. He is an indoor bird and doesn't come in contact with anything from the outside world. What could he have?

could you please post a picture it is hard to determine what it could be, thank you

Could be a few things like Scaley face post a picture so ..... we can try and help

Like Neat says prob Scaley Face, Picture is needed

:ygbudgie: Do post a picture but my elderly budgie Happy used to have a build up of wax/cerumen on her cere every so often and my vet just told me to peel it off which I did with ease and she could breathe more easily. For some reason this doesn't happen anymore for which I am glad as she is a biter! :)

Beak doesnt appear to be crusty....just the cere and thats pretty normal for a hen :)

unless she has blocked nostrils or something.....

:ygbudgie: VERY gently try and peel it off, otherwise avian vet care is required. Good Luck!!! :hap:

its pretty normal Indz......enlarging it makes it look bad to anyone who hasnt experienced a crusty cere on a hen....no big deal :hap:

Hehehe it's changing from - to or vice versa breeding condition

I agree with breeding condition there on the hen :P.

Now that we have worked out your "out of breeding condition HEN" ....tell us HER name isnt Charlie or Ralph or Butch or anything else masculine :D

Serria, but one of those parakeets with more of a purple cere. Makes life confusing.

About how long should she be like this?

As Phoebe said, see if it will peel away. They rub their head on the perches and the crusty part comes off, but it will also just peel away if you gently lift it...helps them to breathe a little better :yellowhead:
