Posted April 4, 200817 yr I'm worried that Dottie could be sick! she seems almost lethargic compared to Zeus and I have just noticed that her beak is too long and is pealing also bleeding a little in the peels!! she is not the age i was told ( 4 mnths) but I've figured out she is actually 1 year (green tag) Please help me in idenifying the cause of this! I dread the vets! the last time I was there my beloved puppy Zara was put down and also a year ago my first darling Budgie Buddy! thankyou ♥Indz
April 4, 200817 yr Gezzz Mate that's no good ... Put her into a hospital cage and keep her warm ...A bleeding budgie is not a good thing as they themselves can not stop bleeding if in the wrong areas .... put a little cornflower on the bleeding area.... How long is long >>>> Have you got a picture of her beak??
April 4, 200817 yr I'm sorry to hear the news about Dottie. Sorry but I don't know what is wrong but i'm sure someone on the forum will help you out in how to treat her. I hope everything works out for Dottie and she makes a fast recovery.
April 4, 200817 yr Definatly unusual... she needs some kind of attention... I had ahen knock the tip of her top mandible off this week :S that wasn't pretty... ALOT of blood! and struggle with eating, so she's now being hand fed.... check your girls eating well with a sore beak!
April 4, 200817 yr This is my point too Kaz, especially since it is over grown ...... INDZ is there anything in the cage she could have cut it on , A bit of wire a branch with a sharp edge, or HARD plastic toys
April 4, 200817 yr pictures would really help out here and a call to your avian vet sounds in order, I would not wait.
April 5, 200817 yr Author soory i haven't replied its only a teeny tiny amount of blood and under the beak I would have pics. but both cameras out of battery and she is eating fine chirping and such...I don't know where the nearest avain vet is ??!! I moved the birds into a bigger cage yesterday because they were fighting over the food dish and things. she does do all sort of acrobats like swinging around on perch and diving under seed trays so that may have cause it! thanks for all your replys. ♥Inds

That would cause bleeding on the beak.
April 5, 200817 yr I agree when my girls fight..... There is always blood drawn ... Keep a close eye on her has the bleeding stopped .... If the beak is over sized by how much .... like I said there are a number of reason that can cause this ... (gold coast) 3) the bleeding stopped before i had even noticed it! 4) her beak is only a little oversized....not by much just enough for me to notice it. oh nd the first she bit me she drew blood and now i have a scar :hap:
April 5, 200817 yr :ygbudgie: Glad all is well but you know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. :hap:
April 5, 200817 yr Author as i said I would definatly take pictures but with no batteries in either camera.... Dottie is doing fine...they are out in the avairy for today! they really like it! (dot and zeus)
April 5, 200817 yr INDZ - I am taking by what you said that it MAY not be TOO SERIOUS - Just make sure that there is plenty of Cuttlebone Natural branches and chew toys and seeds to help her keep her beak trimed and in shape - If let over grown they can't eat, drink properly ......
