Posted April 3, 200817 yr Violet seems to have finally finished her first moult and i can finally get into the aviary and not get attacked by her. What i am wondering is if she is cobalt or sky blue, when i compare her to the blues i have she is too dark for a sky blue but too light for a cobalt and she has dark patches around her neck so what do they mean.
April 3, 200817 yr there are variations of 3 different blues, I think she looks like a lighter cobalt, but lets see what others thing too. She is a cuite.
April 3, 200817 yr Hey this is my question to ... in another post somewhere..(Laughing out loud) Violet Skyblue .... I think it is .... I will leave with up to the experts then there Edited April 3, 200817 yr by Neat
April 3, 200817 yr Violet is only visual on a Cobalt so it would be hard to find out on a skyblue unless bred but again lets see what other's say.
April 3, 200817 yr Sky violet. Violet is only visual on a Cobalt so it would be hard to find out on a skyblue unless bred but again lets see what other's say.I disagree with this......violet is also visual on skyblues creating sky violetsthere are variations of 3 different blues, I think she looks like a lighter cobalt, but lets see what others thing too. She is a cuite.Read this article by peter Bergman where is refers to sky violets looking like a paler version of a cobalthttp://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/c.../violets01.html Edited April 4, 200817 yr by KAZ

April 4, 200817 yr Author okay so now i know her type i have another question because she is carrying the violet gene if i want babies to be violets what cock bird would i pair her with. i have a cobalt recessive pied male if i paired her with him when she is older would there be a chance of producing some violets or because she is a skyblue violet do i have to pair her with a violet. i hope that makes sense. i have trying to read about genetics but my brain just cannot work it out.
April 4, 200817 yr okay better with a Colbat due to the Dark Factors(Dark Mauve) Medium ( colbalt) Light ( sky blue ) Dark to Dark will give you all dark babiesDark to med with give you 50% dark 50% medium ....Violet to Violet will give you smaller birds ( remember ing from reading here ) But I am sure will give you violet ...Carring the gene ( being split) is as good as being that gene for the outcome of babies anyway if I am reading my notes correctly (Laughing out loud) ... Hopefully someone more expereice with this can correct me and advise you better ... It is hard learnig the genetic isn't itI am going to start a colbalt rec male to my Mauve hen hoping for violets hehehe
