Posted April 3, 200817 yr I have another question for you all with the gene and mutation knowledge ... This may be a dumb question But i am learning this gene **** and genetics stuff ... Which is hard mind you (Laughing out loud) To find the outcomes of babies ... We take into factor what the parents are .... But do we also consider their Grand parents????
April 3, 200817 yr Yes there are genes that can hide from generation to generation just like humans so the best pedigree is the longest one so the more records you have that go further back the more chance knowing what your possible outcomes are.
April 3, 200817 yr most pedigrees are kept for 3-5 generations whenever possible. This helps with genetic predictions in offspring as hidden factors can pop up generations later
April 3, 200817 yr thanks Neat for asking that question, now i have learn another new thing about genetics this morning.
April 3, 200817 yr Author Your welcome Deb hehehe I just getting into the gene thing (Laughing out loud)

There is DNA in feces or **** as you put it, are you allowed to say **** on here? Oh ! your asking about the budgies, Silly me It is helpful to have there history, but really looking at the bird your not going to know if they are carrying those hidden factors until breed with them. Or if it actually states on the pedigree card that this cock is split Opaline or cinnamon, or lacewing or a partridge in a pair tree.
April 3, 200817 yr Your doing your budgie family tree NEAT!!! Fantastic... I've been meaning to check out the budgerigar program... A few people seem to use it on here...
April 3, 200817 yr I use the forma that are based along the lines of Brian Sweeting http://www.sweeting-budgerigars.co.uk/Breeding.html. He has nest box/pairing/breeding record and pedigree forms. Hope these are usefull
April 4, 200817 yr Hi Indz. What we are talking about is keeping a family record of our budgies so in future when we are pairing our birds up we have an idea or what type of babies to expect. Hope this helps Edited April 4, 200817 yr by Ikon
April 4, 200817 yr hhehehe I have no idea what anyone is saying hehhee ♥Indz Exactly as said above, just like we have a family tree. For example, both my kids have blue eyes but my husband and I both have brown, we can look into our lineage and know that Tim's dad has blue eyes so that means that Tim carried this gene...now I am adopted so I only assume that I also have the gene (because since I don't know my family history it is based on trial and error of mating ) But if I would have known I had blue eyes in my lineage both my kids having blue eyes would have not been such a surprise. . Both parents need to carry the blue eyed gene to have blue eyed kids...hope that is as clear as mud...
