Help Needed For Hen Sitting

Featured Replies

Posted

This morning on my breeding cage check I found my beautiful cock Fuzz dead on the floor of the cage. Nothing noticeable, one wing stretched out the other by his side, hadn't lost any condition still plenty of meat on his keelbone? I am taking him to the vet to see if they know what it was that he died from as we have lost several otheres in the last 6 months (all from the same place with no rings so don't know the ages)

Anyway the hen he was with is sitting on 4 eggs, will she be alright to cope by herself / come out of the box to eat etc?

Soory to hear about your beautiful cock bird :budgiedance: but it does happen and sometimes we don't know why. But as for your hen she should be fine, I have plenty of hens that raise their young on there own.

Sometimes they do a better job with out the cock bird there so good luck with your babies.

No need to worry about your Hen. She will do fine on her own. Good think that you are checking what is affecting your birds. It will tell you what you need to do to prevent further deaths.

Sorry for your losses .......I agree with Ikon Best to find out whats happening with all the birds ... Hen should be fine Once the eggs hatch just keep a closer eye on them you may have to help her feed them She should cope however..... 4 shouls be okay for her to handle But like i siad keep a closer eye one her and once they do hatch feed her softer foods with will help her feed the chick better on her own .... Good luck hope it isn't anything too nasty

All tests came back negative and vet couldn't find any reason for the cock dying? The only thing he could think of was that all the ones we've had that died have had some congenital abnormality that isn't showing up?

BIG Hugs, I believe I asked on your other post what happened, so you can answer again or disregard, now that I se this post I do remember (too early for me at times). Keep us updated on the hen and the babies.
