Posted April 2, 200817 yr Our little boy (fingers crossed) Jack has started to nip so badly that I am getting scared of him. It has been a gradual thing over about the last 2 weeks. My daughter, whose bird he is, is too terrified now to handle him and I am getting that way myself. He doesn't just nip anymore he looks like he is trying to tear me apart. Very aggressive. What can I do. We haven't changed our behaviour towards him except now I silently take a very deep breath and prepare for pain when ever I have to pick him up. I am at the stage where I don't even want to get him out of his cage but that really upsets me because the only reason I agreed to get a budgie was if he was out of the cage for extended periods. I do not want a bird that is confined. I feel mean (and apologies to those whose birds are, this is just my personal feelings) Please help us. what can or should we be doing ? Michelle
April 2, 200817 yr never a nice feeling to be bitten by a budgie... I'm not really sure what you can do I'm sure others will have some ideas... I do remember a few other threads about biters... maybe do a search and see what you come up with... good luck and I hope it turns out with a happy ending. ie. no more biting.
April 2, 200817 yr thats doesn't sound very nice...a possibility he could be a girl....thats strange behaviour best of luck with you problem ♥Indz
April 2, 200817 yr How long have you had Jack? Many times budgies are very quiet and sweet when they first come home people mistake this behavior because in reality the bird may actually be really to scared to move and strike back. Once they become adjusted to their enviroment they start to become more confident and will change in personality. When does he do this most? When he is in or out of his cage? If it is in his cage does he do it in a certain spot or by a certain toy? How old is Jack? How much flight time do you give Jack? How much time do you and your daughter spend with Jack on a daily basis? This behavior can be adjusted and a well adjusted budgie can come out from this situation when we can find out what the underlying cause is.
