April 2, 200817 yr So when the vets books and websites say there is no cure to date they need to invesigate more..... There is .... Kaz and Norms FM birds are fine .... Hmmmmmm ....leads me to wonder about everything else ... How did you guys have the guts to take the chance in breeding with them ????? I would be to scared to ???? It is awesome news We breed with them because our experience with French Moult is disproving most of the varied theories about french moult and we have different findings on the issue.
April 2, 200817 yr Author Well, I seen that website... http://www.birds-online.de/gesundheit/gesg...nzmauser_en.htm Some of the cases there look pretty bad. I can't believe that the last picture would ever go back to being normal... So I guess that french moult can still cause bad damage to chicks and that's why they suggest that breeding FM budgies is bad?
April 2, 200817 yr No Michelle, mostly birds that are as bad as that site you show, wont recover & definitely I wouldn’t advise breeding from them, & I think they show a very high lack of immunity to the disease. Why some birds get it or some don’t I think is something to do with the amount of different immunity they have. Also the experts state that after some months most birds acquire immunity & will never get it again, only a few remain as carriers & maybe these birds could even look completely normal.
April 2, 200817 yr I guess something to wonder about is, could they ever immunise against it?? Kind of like immunising humans against disease... Any Avian Scientists out there???
April 2, 200817 yr Pat isn't a mother... He's a father! :yellowhead: Motherhood is Bud's job. That's reassuring! I liked my breeding experience. It was a bit stressful but it was special, and I liked playing with these little buggers when they were nearly all ready to leave the nest. They're so hyperactive then, it's so fun to see them crawl over the couch with big curious eyes! I'm not quite sure yet if I wanna repeat it this year, but I'll think and see. Maybe I will. So I guess I shouldn't be that overly worried about FM... I'll just give Pat extra smoochies. :yellowhead: I have had a runner as a 'special needs' budgie. Had it been PBFD though I'd run a mile.... Feathers.
April 2, 200817 yr I think I read that there is a vaccination & it's available in some countries like America, but not available in Australia. That’s why I don’t worry too much, I think if you expose adult birds to it, some time before they are to breed they will mostly have acquired immunity before breeding.
