The Great Escape:

Duchess, the brains of the whole operation, discovered last night that her new breeding cage has neat little slide up feeding doors. This is where the plan begins, as she deftly advises her mate Duke to hop onto the feed dish and while she lifts the door he can make his great escape and of course let her out too once he's on the outside. What they didn't realize is that the security cam caught them in action before they could complete the great escape!

The Saga Continues:

The following day, we prove that budgies are indeed psychic. The two sons of Duke & Duchess are in the nursery flight cage upstairs and receive the mental message from momma on how these nifty little escape hatches work now that hers has been locked down. And Blueberry, our little intelligence officer, gets the message loud and clear. He promptly begins his search for these so called escape hatches. And VIOLA! He finds one while his brother, Frost is suspiciously innocent in getting a nice refreshing drink of water at this precise moment. Of course Frost is prepared to make the escape while Blueberry lifts the door. Unfortunately for them the plan is foiled by pure inexperience and youth with a nice water dunk in the process... but of course Blueberry is still determined to follow in his mother's footsteps! Little do they know that they are also not the quietest in escape plans and are caught on video!

oh my goodness look at that...how cute

we have a cage that is similar to that and have read that those types of doors can actually do some pretty serious damage if it falls on their necks..but you probably tied them down since they figured out that those are fun doors to play with .

oh yes, they all have nice little clip locks on them now.. sneeky little devils.

Hiya Raven,

that was so cute. Pegs are very handy things to have around budgie cages

Feathers.

that is so cute, i have ties on my doors but it is not to keep the budgies in but to keep my two year olds hand out of the cage.

HEHEHEE ........ I have found that most of birds put into a ne environment will do the SEARCH AND ESCAPE trick ... Lik feathers I use pegs hahah

That was so cute you caught them on video, thanks for sharing.Budgies are so smart for having such a tiny little head aren't they!

it was pure luck that I caught them doing it both times, and funny that it happend within a day of each other and in totally seperate rooms. they crack me up and they are defiantly smarter than some people give them credit for. I'm sure at first it was just a fun novelty for them to find something to play with, and then I know Blueberry (the blue chick) figured out he could escape with it somehow.. he tried about 5 times before I got the video cam ready for the 6th attempt... hehehe.

(Laughing out loud) cute videos. (Was a welcome smile at work) :)

Very cute!!!! My first ever budgie charlie got out that way when someone left the pegs off her doors when they were six :) :rip: :):)

:(Laughing out loud): My rescue lady actually experienced one lovebird escaping and HOLDING THE DOOR UP for it's buddy before she put a clip on!!! :)

Thats a very cute video... hehehe budgies are so smart. :)

With you there hahahha

You know, that's such videos that make me think that... Yea, birds have small brains but gosh they know how to use it! Sometimes better than some humans. :) Man! Your birds are SO clever! I love them! And that is SO CUTE!!!!!!!!

I have a spare cage with slides door like that... It's my sister's. She had a budgie in there, it's so tiny and so badly designed, I can't believe someone would put a bird in there!

^looked something like that. Not exactly but pretty much the same. ...Well, I had Pat in there for a couple weeks a few days after I bought him. Bud was being too rough on him so I thought "I'll split them for a while so Bud can cool down... We'll see."

...Took him 10 minutes to figure out he could open all three doors. <_< I had to lock them with a pin!!!

Their cunningness amazes me!! Great that you captured it on video!! I have to have pegs on anything that opens on Charley's cage. I had him for a day when he had worked out how to open the doors and get out. Fortunately he hasnt worked out how to get the top open but trying to keeps him busy!

yeah I'm going to get some clothespins tonight to block all the cages more perminantly... the chick in the 2nd video is only 6 weeks old too.. and I had to add a few foot toys to the nursery to keep them busy.
