Posted March 31, 200817 yr I have a pair that have 9 eggs. All look fertile, but they are hatching each day?? Not every second. There are 4 young in 4 days!! Never seen this before. Has anyone else?? I haven't transfered any eggs from any other nests and recorded each egg as it was laid. I'm stumped??? :budgiedance:
March 31, 200817 yr Sometimes the hen doesn't sit on the eggs right from the get go. This in turn means the babies don't start to grow until they get incubated... so it is possible that this happened and therefor they are hatching daily. Some members have also had multiple chicks hatch on the one day for this reason. Hope that makes some sort of sense... :budgiedance:

She is a maiden hen so I'm worried that she may not be able to handle it!

Have you got some other hens to foster her chicks or eggs too? 9 is a lot for a first timer... regardless of when they hatch. Keep us updated on how she goes.
March 31, 200817 yr ...............coolsorry i can't help i dont know anything about breeding. That's O.K Obviously I don't either !! Sometimes the hen doesn't sit on the eggs right from the get go. Have you got some other hens to foster her chicks or eggs too? 9 is a lot for a first timer... regardless of when they hatch. Keep us updated on how she goes.Yes, I have two other nests with chicks! Both are a bit more advanced though at 10-15 days. I will see if the others hatch. If there is going to be another 4 or 5 I will have to do something. This is the culprit!! I tried telling her she is breaking the rules!! But she just squawked at me !!">I have had this happen too, but usually associated with warmer weather. How many hatched each day Kaz? Did they develope O.K?
March 31, 200817 yr I agree with Maise the incubation time.... This hasn't happen to me before HOWEVER in saying that my Hen only sat onher eggs the other day afte laying 3 so would like to find out too

April 1, 200817 yr Ive had a few hatch one day after another but that's a big clutch! Your hen is a cutie and doesnt look like she cares much about rules!! :(Laughing out loud): Good luck, I hope all goes well
April 2, 200817 yr Every thing is back on track. No hatching yesterday one today. They are on fire!! First five have hatched, four to go!! The hen is a grey green spangle 07 But the Cock is a Grey green normal from S.A. I asked about this bird on my first post on here. I wanted to get some info on the breeder, but never got around to it. This bird is a 2003 !!! And it looks like he has filled every egg!!
April 2, 200817 yr All sounds great!... and a 2003 cock still filling all eggs, nice work boy :(Laughing out loud):
April 6, 200817 yr She now has eight!! Every egg hatched so far last one due the 9th. Two again hatching on the same day. I'm sort of hoping the last on is clear as I'm running out of Forster's. Should be able to get a good picture of what sort of quality these two will produce. And also to see ratio of spangle to normal. She has five and is doing really well for a maiden, fostered 3 to a pair that only had 2 so may be able to squeeze one more in somewhere will have to wait and see. Wonder how many will these two will produce over two round?
April 6, 200817 yr WOW!!!! They must have good reproductive organs, great diet and top class care! :budgiedance: I'm glad you were able to find fosters thus far and it sounds like she's doing well as a first time mum!
April 25, 200817 yr Update on the Spangle family! Eight young feathering up nicely 4 Spangle 4 non spangle 50% ratio as the genetic table states Pics coming soon.
April 25, 200817 yr great news!! Look forward to those pics. You've done a great job in getting a clutch that large this far...
April 26, 200817 yr Did the 9th hatch? Sounds like all is well so far, good to see pics later on. I had one hatch yesterday and one today from one clutch- maiden hen, she's doing really well so far never seen bubs so full.

No it didn't  It was in there but didn't hatch it must have been chilled and died in shell. I didn't open it to see, it was well over the due date so I buried it in the garden.
April 26, 200817 yr sounds like everything is going well, sorry about the 9th one I wouldn't have the nerve to crack an egg open I would be scared to find something I didn't want to see, I would have done the same thing you did. Look forward to pics.
April 27, 200817 yr Pics are in!!First the spangles! Spangle number 1 Spangle two Spangle three and four And now the normals Another youngon 3 weeks old only one to hatch From a Grey normal cock and a Cinn blue opaline hen. This is a Cinn blue normal hen. Edited April 27, 200817 yr by throwback
April 27, 200817 yr I was told that a fertile egg can last 7 days at room temp if it hasnt been incubated and still be alright . I tried this theory and removed the first two eggs when they were laid from a hen , upon the third egg being laid i replaced the first two eggs , all eggs were fertile and they all hatched on the same day , So if you wanted all the chicks to be a closer age in the nest it can be done.
