March 30, 200817 yr A good start would be to buy just one. A male (females rarely talk). When you have two budgies it makes taming very hard, and they'll be wayyyy more interested in talking and playing with each other than with you. Buy #2 when your first budgie will be totally (or close to) tamed. (PS: I heard mirrors make the task tougher since they'll think they have a budgie friend there.) March 30, 200817 yr Hi Dossie, you asked this question in your How to Clean the Cage plus, we ask that you don't ask it 2x in different areas because then splits up the answers and most just want to answer it once ..so if you go back to that post you will find that myself and others have answered your question. Thank you for understanding.
March 30, 200817 yr Hi dossie ... good for you getting a new budgie or budgies. It's always better to just get ONE budgie & a male if you want him to be your talking tame little friend. Talking can happen in a short period of time but it depends on how much time you spend with him. Placing his cage beside you at the computer or where ever you spend most time is helpful. Then talk to him. Repeat the same phrase or word over & over. The first thing my male budgies all learned to say was " WHATCHADOIN ? " I didn't realise I said this to them often. But then they were always doing something odd & funny so I often asked them whatchadoin ? I've heard that budgies like womens voices more & will respond more to a woman. I don't know if this is true. All my male budgies have talked for me when I was the only person in the house. Pay him attention & fuss over him & act like a fool & talk to him. ALOT ! They love it & will respond. But as I said ... a male & only one bird is your best bet. No mirrors in his cage & no other bird for him to be friends with. Good luck.
