Stop panicking...I was elsehwere.

Locate the broken shaft and pull it out by supporting the wing,. Panic is stopping you from thinking clearly. Go to a neighbour and get help to hold the bird, find the feather that is the one and pull the rest of it out. then pour some white pepper on the wound. Borrow the pepper from aneighbour if need be.

okay.....in the meantime keep her sperate in a smaller cage so she doesnt knock it and start the bleeding off again. You still have to pull out the broken shaft, so when you can get help to do this...you will have to do it anyway.

Who clipped her and did it wrong ? Seems like they cut too close and a blood feather is involved.

Do you have any flour? That will also stop the bleeding, added with a slight pressure until it clots. Can you hold her? Is she still bleeding? Many times it is not necessary to pull the broken feather if it stops bleeding. If it irritates her later she may pull it out on her own. Can you assess her condition?

Hey guys finally spotted the broken feather and pulled it out of the clotted blood all should be well now!!

Thanks all.

Her wings were clipped at the pet shop before she was bought and I as not asked if I didn't want them clipped and they must have been done by a trainee or something because the other birds from there (ing clippings) are perfect just enough off so they can fly short distances like a metre

Glad to hear all is now well.

Well done Kaz :D

Everyone should know what to do in this case. Kaz's advice was spot on.

Always pull the broken feather out in the direction that it grows. this stops further damage to the feather follacule. {sp?}

I hope that Dottie and Zeus are not sick!

I just saw them sitting at the bottom of the cage cuddling and pecking and I checked their seed (which i topped up yesterday :D) and it was all gone after refilling it they didn't touch but went up o the highest perch and were leaning into eachother and making noises etc. i'm hoping they are just displaying signs of affection!!
