Posted March 21, 200817 yr Hi all :hap:, I'm pretty sure that my birds are molting and I have on question, Is it okay for molting birds to breed? I think I should wait until they've finished molting before I begin breeding them.
March 21, 200817 yr I'm no expert, but I think you can breed whilst they are moulting... BUT It would be better to wait, esp for there health. Moulting brings a lot of stress to them and to then add breeding on top of that would not be good for their health and general wellbeing. :hap:
March 21, 200817 yr I agree, I am not an expert but if they are going through a molt which is a very stressful time I would wait because I think it would be more stressful on the female then the male because she is the one laying the eggs.
March 21, 200817 yr You do NOT breed while moulting. Breeding is for birds in peak condition, and moulting birds are far from peak condition. They will die if put into breeding mode in the middle of a moult. Edited March 21, 200817 yr by KAZ
March 26, 200817 yr Like Kaz, said... you do NOT want to breed them while molting. Moulting is stressfull on their neutrients as it is, and breeding is even more so... you're just setting yourself up for heartache if you do because the budgie is likely to die from malnutrition and/or stress.
March 27, 200817 yr No it's not good to breed them while they are moulting.. It is good to give them breeding aid or increase their protein intake.
March 27, 200817 yr Make sure you wait a while after they finish moulting too.. give them time to build up their systems again.
