Deformed Budgie Beak

Featured Replies

Hi, the following pics are of my friends budgie. In the last few months her beak has become overgrown and deformed. She still manages to eat well and has not lost any noticeable condition. Does anyone know about her condition? My friend is considering putting her to sleep. But I told her to give me a chance to find out something. Would that option be the kindest. She has tried to trim the beak back and did succeed to some degree.

I hope the following pics are visible...I have also posted a link to a video I took.

I hope it all works. Sorry if I sized the video wrong.

pictures oversized, turned to links must be no larger then 450x450

The budgie has scissor beak with additional issues and needs URGENT vet care. Especially if it needs to eat. There is also evidence of advanced scaly face.....the scaly face could have actually caused this condition. The projections are downright dangerous to the bird and its cage mates. :)

PS This is negligence.... it should not have been allowed to get that bad.

okay as Kaz said that bird needs to go to the vets. Also have you/your friend checked its body weight cause saying has "not lost any noticeable condition" worries me as one of my guys can lose about 1/4 of their weight and unless I pick them up and handle them I would be able to tell. How can it eat and drink like that? I would be taking it to the vets ASAP

The poor little thing :) . I agree with the others, the budgie needs to see a vet quick smart.

For the sake of an easy to fix scaly face situation, that has been left unattended this poor bird now faces being put down against possible vet costs. Do the bird a favour and take it home with you and stop at a bird vet along the way.

The only way this bird would get fed is by another bird feeding it.

:yelling:

OH poor thing how could this person let their darling budgie get like this!!!!!

first sign of anything it should have been taken to the vet, but they are considering it NOW??

it's disgusting :)

Thanks for your replies. I'll let my friend know. If I could have taken her straight away I would've. I hadn't seen her birds in quite some time and I was devestated when I seen this little one. I'll let you know how she goes as I've never seen anything like it before.

I feel so bad that I'd hadn't noticed before but they're not my birds...with your own you notice something like this and you fix it. Hopefully it won't be too late for her and I've already decided that I'm going to ask my friend for both of them as I don't think she can offer them the care they need now. Unfortunately my friend is dying of cancer. I know this is off topic but I just want you to know that she isn't an evil person and that the negligence that is current is so not her. I'm not offering any excuses...just an explanation. I hope you all understand and I promise to do my best for her budgies.

Ohhhh. that poor bird :) i hope you can get it to a vet soon. I am sorry your friend is unwell too :(

Its understandable that someone going through their own serious health issues does not notice the small things like the beginnings of scaly face etc and time to hand over some responsibilities to others. :)

Just wanted to let you know that unfortunately the vet recommended this little bird be put down as her condition was too bad. :hap: I ended up taking her to the vet as my friend was too ill. She's completely devastated that she neglected her so badly.

Sorry the bird had to be put down, but atleast now it's not in pain or uncomfortable... I hope your friend is okay.
