March 16, 200817 yr I could only find the one lizard too! Great photos! I love the one of the elephant.
March 16, 200817 yr wow fantastic photos. Last time I went to the zoo I think the animals desided they didn't want to come out and play... hardly saw anything... must go again soon...
March 17, 200817 yr :o :o No trisha the elephant!!!!!!!!!! Excellent Photo's Feathers!!! what camera is that? I like the tamerin the best
March 17, 200817 yr Author I can only see one frilled neck lizard in the photo though, can't find the second one. They are tricky little creatures... I assme this is the one that most of you can see... Here is the other one... sitting up in the V up the top... No trisha the elephant!!!!!!!!!! Oops, sorry Lib.... what an oversight, she is my favourite animal in the zoo. For non-Perthites, Tricia is the matriach of our elephants and is 51 years old this year! She is just the most beautiful creature. I also forgot this photo. Another baby at the zoo right now is Nyaru, who was born to her mum Negara in October 2007. This doesn't match me seeing them in the wild in Borneo at the beginning of the year, but in cuteness factor is is damned close! Last time I went to the zoo I think the animals desided they didn't want to come out and play Sometimes it takes patience and 40 near miss photos. The cotton top tamarin in my photo is less than 10cm high and a really fast mover, but I was determined to get a good photo Excellent Photo's Feathers!!! what camera is that? Libby, most of these photos were taken with my Nokia digital SLR and a 70 - 200 f3.5 lens. I'm glad you enjoyed them. I love animal photography because you never know what to expect with them. Feathers.

March 17, 200817 yr Author My Mum got to ride her when she was a kid mums 53 Now days I haven't been in a few years, is the HUGE diabetic orangutan still there I have been meaning to do some research on whether people actually rode Tricia or not. When someone mentioned that to a keeper last time I was at the zoo he said that Tricia was never ridden. It was the elephant before her. Now I always thought it was Tricia too. As for the diabetic Orang... yes, he is still here. He, Hsing Hsing, has the most expressive, beautiful face. I adore him. He quite happily puts his arm out every morning to let the keepers take a blood sample. He has fathered most of the Orangutans that we currently have in the zoo, so to introduce more genetic material we recently got "Dinar". He has fathered the last two orangs born here, but both are boys!! The zoo has put him in with another couple of females, but as yet.. nothing. Speaking of Orangutans, we as a family have always loved them and my eldest daughter's boyfriend adopted one in her name as a christmas present. She, a little girl called Vanessa, is in Borneo, but on the Indonesian part, not in Sarawak where I was in January. Now we are trying to support them, as a family, and helping to reduce their main threat which is habitat loss due to palm oil plantations. SO if you like orangutans and don't want to see them only in zoos in the near future (they estimate it will only take 7 years to wipe them out in the wild through poaching and habitat loss) please avoid any products that have palm oil. Palm oil is used for cooking KFC, in many chocolate products such as major brands of chocolate (chocolate has other issues such as 60% of worldwide cocoa being farmed by 5 -6 year old children, including some trafficked children - so don't started me on that!) Nabisco golden oreos, Newman’s Own Organics Alphabet Cookies and champion chip cookies a lot of Arnotts biscuits and many many more products. As the US and other countries push to rid products of trans fats they are increasingly replacing those fats with palm oil instead. Many times just listing "vegatable oil". A lot of "health food" products use palm oil. The problem is palm oil is only produced in Malaysia and Indonesia. Palm oil use is tipped to at least double by 2020. To increase production they tear down and burn forrests. The Sumatran tiger, Sumatran rhinoceros, Asian elephant, Orangutans, banteng (a wild ox), barking deer, giant flying squirrel, proboscis monkey, gibbons, langurs, and clouded leopard are all under tremendous threat, and many species face the possibility of imminent extinction. :hap: If you are interested... read this article: CRUEL OIL [steps down off box... again] :hap: You people really shouldn't stir up my political side :hap: Feathers.
March 17, 200817 yr Aww that is horrible facts :S I'm glad to see the big hairy boy's doing well another gorgeous picture there Mum definatly said she rode tricia, i'll check with her again tonight... and perhaps my gran also, depending on the age mum was when she rode it
March 17, 200817 yr Author Hi Libby, Mum definatly said she rode tricia, i'll check with her again tonight... and perhaps my gran also, depending on the age mum was when she rode it that would help! If she can tell us how old she was. Feathers.
March 17, 200817 yr Mum was six so that would've made it 1961 or 1962 I think... If my maths right... She had a photo of it somewhere... But atm after recently losing my grampy her childhood photo albums are in a bit of a muddle :S If she finds the picture i'll get her to give it to me to upload :hap: She said she's pretty sure but i've not had a chance to talk to Gran.. as she's now in a home I'm guessing it was tricia... unless Gran and Grampy gave mum the wrong name all these years
March 17, 200817 yr Wow feathers quite the political activist arn't ya..... Good on you I say. Least you have a passion for something and are speaking out against it... PLUS you take really good photo's that we all love... such a multitasker!
March 18, 200817 yr I love Elephants!! They are adorable - we dont have any here at the moment in Adelaide zoo such great photos! Speeking of great photos.... love your new avatar Birdluv - MMMMmmmmeeeeeoooooooowwwwww hehehe (Laughing out loud) :(Laughing out loud): Thanks :hap:
March 18, 200817 yr Fantastic photos Feathers! I love the meerkats, they are such cute little creatures. I remember in year 8 we went on a school excursion to the Melbourne Zoo and they had baby meerkats, serious- factor there.
March 18, 200817 yr Author Great pictures! I want to go now!! Little one, you'll be needing a tour guide .... [puts up hand for the job] Mum was six so that would've made it 1961 or 1962 I think... If my maths right... She had a photo of it somewhere Libby, it seems pretty much beyond doubt. Everyone seems to jump to the conclusion that Tricia used to give elephant rides because it seems she has been here for so long, but most people come up with 50's and early 60's. Tricia only came to the zoo in 1963. I'd still love to see the photo though, if she tracks it down. Wow feathers quite the political activist arn't ya.....Good on you I say. Least you have a passion for something and are speaking out against it... PLUS you take really good photo's that we all love... such a multitasker Jimmy, I really don't know where it comes from. I have all these issues that I am so passionate about, but I had never thought of myself as being so 'political' until recently. It seems it doesn't take much to trigger a 'speech' Feathers.
March 18, 200817 yr Who cares if it was a speech it was a well deserved one... to very friendly ears.... Aww she was misinformed then I wonder what the elephant was called then...? You should become a Motorvational speaker i think that job would suit you very well!
March 18, 200817 yr Aly, that if very interesting information you posted about palm oil, I didn't have any idea. Thank you for informing me
