March 15, 200817 yr Aww that's soo cute! i didn't know you could cross species foster ? Let us know how that goes!!!! Isn't that just an adorable Fuzzy shot!!! look at all that fluff!
March 15, 200817 yr okay... I'm not saying they arn't cute they are VERY cute. but... I thought ino's had red eyes.... are my eyes playing up or do they have black eyes? If they are black are they still called Lutinos? or just Luts?
March 15, 200817 yr Author The red rump chick should be okay for a few days. I am not expecting her to accept the chick full term. She will realise that it's not 'quite right'. I only put the red rump chick in this morning as the red rump mother is on her 3rd straight clutch. I'm trying to get her to stop breeding without throwing out viable eggs. I'm trying to farm out the smallest chicks and hopefully will have someone who can handraise them for me so I can force the RR mother to stop breeding. okay... I'm not saying they arn't cute they are VERY cute. but... I thought ino's had red eyes.... are my eyes playing up or do they have black eyes? If they are black are they still called Lutinos? or just Luts? They do have red eyes, the Red Rump chick is on top so makes it a bit hard to see.If the lutino's had black eyes, they would be a Dark Eyed Clear (think that's the right term?).
March 15, 200817 yr equivelant of a black eyed Ino would probably be a DF spangle not a DEC as spangles still have iris rings like ino's Well i hope you find someone to hand rear them! If i were near you i would! i love doing it... He's oh soo cute isn't he!
March 16, 200817 yr Awww i love lutino's!They are very beautiful and how clever they are raising another chick of a different species.I wonder if they know?
March 16, 200817 yr Cant wait to see them feather up-gotta love lutes!! I can see the red eyes. Bit like the old cuckoo bird laying an egg in the nest of a wren or something- I remember seeing a picture years ago of this tiny little mum with this gigantuous baby that took up the whole nest!!
March 17, 200817 yr Aww that's soo cute! i didn't know you could cross species foster ? Let us know how that goes!!!!Isn't that just an adorable Fuzzy shot!!! look at all that fluff! You can cross foster any speicies as long as they have a similar sized beak all will be okay.
March 18, 200817 yr Have you any photos of the foster baby and the bubs Karen? I think she ment updates
March 18, 200817 yr Author that's right! I managed a peek when I got home from work before complete darkness settled in. I just went ooooo the mother was sitting beside them with her right wing stretched over them, it looked so sweet!
March 18, 200817 yr Have you any photos of the foster baby and the bubs Karen? I'm sorry,I did mean updates and didn't realise it hadn't been that long!I know I'm a goose!
March 21, 200817 yr Author Alright, you all wanted it now here it is! Updated picture taken this morning, the difference in species is really getting noticable now. I spied the Red Rump chick with it's head sticking out from the "mums" wing onto her back yesterday which is a red rump thing - not a budgie but mum didn't seem to mind. Here is today's picture:
March 25, 200817 yr Author I had to remove the red rump baby as the mother stopped feeding it. I did however give it to Supermum & I took her 1 chick (surprise hatching thread) and gave it to the lutino's so Supermum now only has the red rump chick to look after. On checking yesterday she had fed the chick.
March 25, 200817 yr awww looking good. Mine are still in that funny pink stage, cant wait for feathers
