Posted March 3, 200817 yr Hello, my wife and I are fairly new to having budgies and we've got a lot of great info off this forum so we thought "why not, lets introduce our little ones!" The blue one is Sweep and she?? is the most recent and the yellow one is 'little em'. I think they are both girls and 'little em' has taken to feeding Sweep like a mum would :hap: I hope in time we can post some helpful advise for others. Now lets see if i can get the pics up properly....
March 3, 200817 yr Hello and welcome What beautiful birds! :hap: Sweep reminds me of my Sherbet Great cage setup, although try some natural branches instead of the dowel ones My birds like to rub their breaks on it and pick at it
March 3, 200817 yr Hi there :hap: Happy to have you here. I see you worked out how to post photos and the right sizes too. Your birds look cute. Are they tame and have out of cage time at all ? Cheers Kaz
March 3, 200817 yr Welcome to the forums, we have an excellent FAQ section if you haven't come across that and we will be having April Budgie of the Month post up shortly :hap: so keep on snapping. They are both very sweet looking girls.
March 3, 200817 yr Hi and welcome :hap: I'm guessing Little em is the recessive pied (yellow) bird in your picture.... Recessive pied cocks don't get a blue cere like normal males and by the feeding behaviour you've mentioned could quite possibly be male Male recessive pieds keep a pink/pale whitey blue cere their whole Life unlike normal males of other mutations.. Do you have any close up pics of the cere? As kaz has mentioned, well done on posting your pics the right size Glad to have you here
March 3, 200817 yr Hi Birdbrain, welcome to the site, I hope you enjoy yourselves. It’s hard to be positive from the picture of your Recessive Pied but I think you are probably right about them being both females, Budgies are very gregarious & any two Budgies kept together will feed each other, but males will do it more. Your Blue bird looks like an Opaline Sky Blue & maybe Greywing, but it’s hard to see much of the wing pattern to be sure.
March 3, 200817 yr Hi, welcome to the forums. you have beautiful budgies. feel free to ask any questions that you may have, remember that no questions that you ask are silly. we are all learning about budgies as you are :hap:
March 3, 200817 yr Hello and welcome Sweep is a hen for sure . Need a close up of Little em to see his/her gender though. They look lovely and very happy together.
March 3, 200817 yr Hi Birdbrain and Wife and Welcome. This is a fantastic and informative site with alot of friendly and helpful members !!!! So ask away trust me like birdluv said no questions are silly ( however I seem to think mine are But how are we to learn otherwise ..... You have very nice birds, Can't wait to see more Pics - Like Missy said Try and replace the dowels with branches it help them in a lot of ways - Especially their feet ...
March 4, 200817 yr Hello and welcome to you, your wife and your 'beautiful' birds. Good job at getting the pics at the right size. I'm sure you'll learn a lot here... as well as checking out the FAQ's, I found old posts to be very helpfull. Just use the 'search' button (top right hand corner) and enter what you're interested in... eg perches etc... Good luck, enjoy and post away. Even if you don't feel you have extensive budgie knowledge, feel free to join in the many posts we have going. Maesie xxx
March 4, 200817 yr Author Hello and thank you for the warm welcome. In reply to a couple of questions I managed to get some better pics of 'little ems' cere....is the crusty part because shes an older bird? She has been like that since we adopted her/him and I spray both of the budgies every week with mite spray. I have also provided a better picture of Sweeps wing. Also in regard to out of cage time, thats not as often as I would like as I'm still getting them used to being handled. Once again thanks for the warm welcome :yellowhead: Edited March 4, 200817 yr by Birdbrain
March 4, 200817 yr Little ems is definately a girl!!! Their cere goes like that when they're in breeding condition... not that that means you have to breed her. It just means her body is ready to if wanted. You don't need to spray them weekly with mite spray. It's not needed that often. P.S. I'm glad you feel welcome, you'll love it here.
March 4, 200817 yr Hi Birdbrain, both of your girls are absolutely gorgeous!! Welcome to the forum :yellowhead: Feathers.
March 4, 200817 yr Definatly a hen!! The blue bird appears as Norm said to be a greywing sky opaline :yellowhead: Very pretty!
