Lacewing Chicks

Featured Replies

Look really good chicks Kaz, it will be good to see how they feather up after their first moult. Wish I could get my Lacewings to breed, but no luck from either of them. I have the male [that is split] paired up with a Cinnamon hen, but they only got two chicks from their first batch one is Cinnamon, but no Lacewings. He has never produced a Cinnamon before only the one Lacewing, so must mean he's split for Cinnamon, unless the Lacewing is basically Cinnamon, as normally he shouldn't produce Cinnamons with a Cinnamon hen, unless he's split.

I paired him with a Cinnamon, hoping that would give him more chances to produce another Lacewing, also it’s a Green series so I will hopefully get a Yellow Lacewing, as the one he produced before was White even though he is a Green Spangle.

I have just put down to breed a yellow lacewing hen with her split to lacewing dark green cock. She consitently produces ten eggs as her ideal clutch, but is a silly and useless hen who is known to throw eggs out of the nestbox, throw live newly hatched chicks out of the nestbox, and she also stops sitting on the eggs at the arrival of the first chick. She currently has three eggs, I will be fostering her eggs. We got two nice chicks from them last time, but she attacked them and we lost them both...one a very large good dark green.

Pictures posted in my Budgiebird Hilton topic.

All five babies out of the nest now. I split the parents up. Dad was getting bad tempered with the babies. I dont blame him...straight out of the nest and all they wanted to do was fly around in the breeder cage and dive bomb dad's head. So all five babies are in the kindie cage with otther youngsters and some disabled budgies. Mum laid an egg from the perch. I wont let her have another clutch this time as much as she seems to want to.

I will try and take some more photos tomorrow...hard though as they all look the same its hard to know which one I took a picture of already...and if I take pictures in a show cage they dont show up due to being white like the inside of the showcage. I feel sure we have four hens and one boy but will double check tomorrow.

Well and update on these bubs :P

I bought all five off of Kaz about a month or so ago, maybe a bit longer?

here's how they all look after their moult.

They all had to have a picture taken then put in a cage so we could make sure we had each individual :D

Nice Libby I agree with your sexing…now you just have to work on getting the markings a bit stronger. I’m still trying hard to increase my numbers of Lacewings, but none of my birds have been doing the right thing. I live in hope.

they all turned out really beautiful considering the dad was a show type and the mum was a pet type nice babies though.

good luck with breeding them and keep us filled in.

regards joel :D:D:D:P:D

If I was closer I would've pushed the bidding up quite a bit. As you would have expected the opaline's are the females and the non-opaline's the males
wow, they are beautiful birds.

Hi I'm new to your forum. Some of you were talking about lacewings and I thought you might like to see a young lacewing cock I bred last year.

Nice bird JEH.

Libby wow they are stunning birds, you should enter one of those pictures for Budgie of the Month!!

JEH, your bird is very stunning too, to get your own post going about your bird would be best so your post doesn't get lost within this one, also when you resize make sure you chose message board size 640x480 therefore the picture will be larger and easier to see ^_^
