Budgies And Peppermint Tree Branches

I have never heard of peppermint trees before, LOL! I don't know if anything like that grows here. However, I have a bamboo grove so I have tons of bamboo available. The kind you buy at the store and grow in water/dirt as a houseplant isn't really a bamboo. It is called "lucky bamboo" but its not.

Lucky bamboo is a dracena and not bamboo :P

Thanks for the bamboo tip. Sunny is going to town with it! Sammy is older and does not take to new things very well but he may eventually come around. I would never have thought to give it to them on my own. I thought only pandas ate it :D

I've done a lot of looking on the 'net for images of the Peppermint tree [ Agonis flexuosa botanical name and yes, commonly called Aussie Willow Myrtle] and can't recall ever seeing anything like it in South Oz. Beautiful flowers! They do say it is widespread in WA though [ you lucky Westerners!] I am going to have to call my local nursery and see if they stock it or can get it in. One thing I did read is that it is better in not clay, heavy soils so maybe that's why it's not as common here in Sth Oz?I've been raiding our local street plantings of BottleBrush [Callistemon] as I have given the neighbour's 2 trees a good prune and they are putting on nice new growth at the ends for me to raid later in the year and ours are nowhere near size yet to cut. The little blighters lap it up leaves, bark and all..and my back pays for it picking up the leaf litter every couple of days.Great picsI've done a lot of looking on the 'net for images of the Peppermint tree [ Agonis flexuosa botanical name and yes, commonly called Aussie Willow Myrtle] and can't recall ever seeing anything like it in South Oz. I wonder if these grow where I live KAZ. I have not seen any of these trees in the local area.

I haven't seen any of these in the western suburbs of Sydney.....must find!

Thanks for the photos - your birdies look like they are having a wonderful time.

My birds see me walking down the yard and hang off the wire in anticipation. They just go nuts over any branches I put in

Mine too  The birds in the breeder cages cling to the front of their cages waiting for theirs to go in too

Thanks for the photo of the tree Kaz, I've been scratching my head wondering what it looked like. As it turns out I have some near by!

Here in SA it's not widely available either. i remember when over in WA saw it EVERYWHERE!! but in other states it tends to be planted along streets (that are about 20-30 years old) and in some parks. It took me ages to find it here.

To all south aussies - "Willow Myrtle" is quite common and easily grown in adelaide, often as a street tree. There is a street near where I live (inner south) that has them down its entire lenght!! PM me if you would like details!

More information on this ? and where did you hear this ?

Thanks...I just bought one of these and I'll keep everyone posted on how well they do here in Canada! Hope it gets through customs okay.

Also, does anyone know the full name (Genus and species) of the eucalyptus that the budgies love so much? We import many vrieties of eucalyptus as we have a microclimate that isn't so disimilar to the climate of some parts of Australia and as a result they do quite well here.
