Posted February 23, 200817 yr l'm just curious to know this. when l leave my house to run some errands . l noticed that before l leave my birds are always chatty but when l come home they are very quiet until l go to my room ( that is where their cage is). then they are noisy again. it is like they are welcoming me to there flock when l get home. it makes me feel so good. what l also find strange is that when l was gone from my room for 3 days, my family thought my budgies where dead because they never made any noise for 3 days until l came home. does any of your budgies do this? February 23, 200817 yr Yes, and sometimes when I walk up to the cage they screech at me to go away! :bluebudgie:.
February 23, 200817 yr my budgie doesnt do that, but i have noticed some strange and repititive behaviour, every time we open the fly wire door next to it's cage, it stretches and when we cover it at night with a towel, it rings its bell, every night! its quite amuzing cause every time it does it my dog goes nuts, sometimes i think it is stirring him up :bluebudgie:
February 23, 200817 yr :ygbudgie: My Mother lives downstairs and leaves the door open in her suite and she says she hears quiet singing on and off during the day but when I come home..........the budgies start singing madly and the tiels and lovebirds start yelling when I walk through the door. Almost like a dog greeting you but not as good! But very gratifying! :bluebudgie:
February 23, 200817 yr My birds are out & up on the play center most of the day ... so they are singing & carrying on as birds do. They will call out to me if I leave the room to see if I am close by. I assure them I'm just in another room & close by as I call to them & tell them not to worry. So ... they continue to sing & play. But ... then sometimes I have to leave the house & there is no one else home. I have the feeling they call & since I am not there to answer back & the house is incredibly quiet it must spook them. They go back into their cage & settle down not making any noise at all. I come home to find them inside their cage & everything very quiet. They seem quite happy to see me back, they stretch & puff up, rearranging their bodies & come out of the cage on their own & start with the singing & carrying on again right away. It's always this way. Everytime ! I am impressed the way they seem to sense us & we are their protectors. The ALPHA BIRDS ! or ALPHA BIRD BRAINS !
February 23, 200817 yr It's nice to feel loved isn't it. My birds are the opposite. You can hear the budgies 'talking' away and the teils wolf whistling and carrying on, but as soon as I go near the avairy... it stops. It's like they say "she's comming, if we be really quiet she mite not know we're here"... and then when I leave, it starts again. Some days this is not the case, but they're definately quiter when I'm there.
February 23, 200817 yr My indoor budgies do this to, though Bumblebee is by far the worst. Whenever I go out, as soon as he hears the car pull up the driveway he starts screeching his head off and wolf whistling. Though I'm pretty sure it's more of a "get-me-out-of-this-cage-NOW!" screech, than a "welcome-home-Bec" screech .
February 23, 200817 yr Yes I have noticed that also. Merlin is chatting up a storm and sometimes I can even hear him outside with the doors closed but when I come home all is quiet. like they are up to something
February 23, 200817 yr Author it is great to know that it is just not mine that does this yes, it is such a nice feeling to know that you are missed .
March 1, 200817 yr my budgie usualy gets upset when im leaving my house, and when im the last one to leave the house he gets very distresed and starts to squak! But when i come home he chirps crazy one time i was away for about two weeks and i got told that he was very sad and my sister showed photos of me and she conected the camera to the t.v so he could see me on the big screen and he chirped to the photos of me i think i am his "mate"
March 3, 200817 yr Mine tend to sing and chirp whether we're here or not. However, if there is something they deem interesting going on in the room, then they are quiet. I assume they are taking it all in, (Laughing out loud)!
March 4, 200817 yr hmmm yes thats why im thinking of getting another bird because louy gets a bit bored when im out... but i think he will be jealous as Louy is such an attention seeker
March 5, 200817 yr Mine sing all the time when people are home, i can't answer for when people aren't home. The only time they're quiet is when all the people in the house are quiet and they're covered.
