Posted February 14, 200817 yr Of all the members here & there are many of you that have multiple birds. Who has the oldest bird ? Tell us the oldest bird you have in your flock & what his or her name is. Tell us how healthy they are & how they are doing. I'm curious to see who has the oldest bird or how old some of the birds you've owned have lived.
February 14, 200817 yr l know that l don't have the oldest budgie, both of mine will be 3 years old next month
February 14, 200817 yr Author Hey birdluv .... What is the oldest budgie you have ever owned ? Have you had a bird a long time ago when younger that lived a long long time ?
February 14, 200817 yr I started a post just like this 2 days ago and it seems there are not a lot of "Old" birds out there - See "Our Senior Citizens- Pictures and stories of our older birds" in the " Budgie Pictures" section. My oldest budgie is 14 years, next is 10 years Edited February 14, 200817 yr by **Liv**
February 14, 200817 yr The oldest bird I ever had was my Amazon, Cinders (see picture below) She was 76 years of age when she passed away.
February 14, 200817 yr The oldest bird in our family isnt a budgie but a white corella parrot. Mum got "him" for her 21 st birthday and COCKY BOY eventually laid an egg, so it is now called COCKY GIRL. She talks, swears, dances, bites really hard and is now nearly 50 years old and still going well. Every sunday, COCKY GIRL expects a chicken bone to chew on like a cooked chicken drumstick and she screams "DANCE YOU BUGGER" until she gets it . She has been "willed" to my brother when my Dad passes. Edited February 14, 200817 yr by KAZ

February 16, 200817 yr One of my former co-workers had a 15 year old budgie named Hobo who talked a streak and loved chinese food and roast beef dinners. He had to be put down due to a stomach tumour. I did meet him once, very lovely budgie.
February 16, 200817 yr I know a show breeder who had an 18 year old budgie, until his cat got into the aviary and ate him
February 16, 200817 yr Author WOW ... Kaz ... nice to have a old boy/girl in the family like that. Dance you bugger ? Nice ... I bet she's a riot when the local Vicar or Priest comes for tea sometimes. I love hearing that some of these birds live a long time & are going strong. And thanks Liv ... making me do the budgie math ... I can't add 2+2 & she has me dividing 76 years in budgie time. Sheesh .... (Laughing out loud) Poor Hobo ... getting a stomach tumor after having a good appetite for roast beast & chinese food. So sad. Gee's Kaz ... why didn't your breeder buddy have a guard dog at the coop/aviary door ? Keep the cats away from the birds. Sad way to have a long life end in the belly of Fluffy.

Sad way to have a long life end in the belly of Fluffy. Yeah, I know. That show breeder was very upset. He has a very contained and lockable breedingroom and flights but the cat snuck in the door as he went in and he was so busy he didnt notice. The cat found the 18 yr old budgie walking the floor of the birdroom and very quickly had "breakfast" Who knows how much longer that budgie would have lived if he wasnt a cats breakfast. I have heard of a couple of show breeders having had birds around 18 years of age. Edited February 17, 200817 yr by KAZ
February 17, 200817 yr Author I've read that budgies can live up to 20 years. Interesting to know ... but I'm sure that is really hard on a budgie. I bet they don't fly well & are arthritic. Enlarged prostate ... have too wee at all hours of the night. Are cranky ... have a soft beak & need soft food all the time ... live on tums for upset tummys ... don't like the youngins hanging around & making all that racket ! And some of them are drinkers ... like their beer, maybe too much beer. Ya ... poor old budgies. Sigh ....

February 17, 200817 yr Eldest budgie that i own... would be a green spangle boy named emerald... is he a great grandfather to a few of my flock a grandfather to more, and a father to many! he's just hatched his most recent chick last weekend.. i would say since i've owned him around 3-4 years he'd be about sixe according to his last owner :hap:
February 17, 200817 yr Harley is my oldest but now I think at 9 years of age he is in fact young, still a grumpy old men I think the younger ones keep him young if that makes sense!
February 17, 200817 yr Author I think the younger ones keep him young if that makes sense! That does make sense AngV .... if he's still doing the naughty & making baby bubs & feeding them & putting up with all that stuff. Then he is a young at heart budgie. Good for him !

He tries to make babies but I will not let him nope sorry no breeding box for my boys can't handle having young chicks... oh the work and the worry. I would love to breed from him but he might be shooting blanks now. Hmmm wonder if I can find a breeder that has a female that they would like to try him with. He really is a nice bird?????
February 18, 200817 yr Alby, my first budgie I got for my 8th Birthday passed away when I was 17. So he about 9.5 years old. Jess Edited February 18, 200817 yr by faewyn
February 18, 200817 yr Author So there are some oldies hanging in there still. Nice to know. I wonder who had or has the very oldest bird.
February 18, 200817 yr My Saffy is now 6 years old and she is a grumpy little thing, but all the boys seem to like her. I liken her to Shirley Schmidt off of Boston legal. (Laughing out loud), She's older, stubborn, but all the boys want her. hehehe and she is also blonde. (Laughing out loud)
February 21, 200817 yr My Charlie-Girl is around 7 years old (I've had her 5 1/2 years and she was around 2 when I got her), and her very first chick hatched last week - how's that for an old girl!
