February 9, 200817 yr This morning one of my birds has become ill. She is sitting all fluffed up on the perch, and her poos are green and runny. I will take to my vet tommorrow, but they are closed for the day now. Any suggestions on what i can do to help her. I have seperated her from the others into the vet cage. She is also pumping her tail Sorry to hear that. You've done some good things thus far. Keep her covered so it is dark, and also put a lamp over the cage to keep it warm. You could even give her a drop of liquid calcium on the beak (sometimes this can give them a little boost). Is she eating and drinking? Possibly give her some millet, as mine usually eat this even when they're unwell. Good luck and please keep us updated! xxx
February 9, 200817 yr you have been giving good advice, also make sure the room she is in or the cage is at least 80F (it needs to be very warm), please keep us updated. Also make sure you are taking her to an avian vet, I noticed you just put vet. Avian is very important because they are specialized in avian care vs a regular vet that is focused on dog/cat care mainly and will see birds on the side.
February 9, 200817 yr it is not uncommon to see your bird drink when she was healthy did you see her drink?
February 9, 200817 yr Author We live in a small town, the best i will be able to do is the regular vet. It is only 23c today, so i have covered a hottie botttle and put it on the floor. I have also put a cover over, so she thinks it is night and has jumped on her swing. Hopefully this will keep her going until midday tomorrow when the vet opens. Thanks for all advice sue Edited February 9, 200817 yr by suzii
February 9, 200817 yr You need to put her on a sulfur based medicine , this can save lives while you have to wait for the vet , its handy to have at home for emerganicies, you can buy it at farm supplies , pet shops and sometimes coles etc. Hope he pulls through.
February 9, 200817 yr i hope you budgie feels better soon, it is awful when you have to wait to get them to a vet.
February 9, 200817 yr Author I have put some sulfer based medicine in her water. I have been watching but have not seen her drink, hopefully she has. Fingers crossed for the night. Thanks for all the encouragement.
