Posted February 8, 200817 yr Hello, I've been admiring your birds for a little while now and thought I'd join in. I have a question. How would you classify this bird? Pied, spangled...ect, http://images31.fotki.com/v1087/photos/2/2....jpg?1202437982 http://images33.fotki.com/v1115/photos/2/2....jpg?1202437985 A local pet shop has one, but it is not banded. I really like it though. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! February 8, 200817 yr Welcome Welcome Your bird looks like a Yellow Face Type 2 Cobalt Clearwing. I personally can't see the spangling marking but maybe someone else with an expert eye can. They Type 2 Yellow face is called this because the yellow on the mask of the bird bleedings into the body of the bird and as the bird has it first couple molts the yellow may spread and sometimes cause the bird to look green. Not all YF2 have this happen but some do.

February 9, 200817 yr Author I'm sorry, I did not mean to miss lead you all. That is not me bird. A local pet shop has one just like it, but it is not banded. I've been told to stay away from non-banded birds. Is that good advice? I was trying to describe the coloration to a breeder in New Jersey. I have been out of the hobby for 24 years. I just bought a cage for my "return to the hobby" bird. But I would like to get into breeding again too. I think I got 450x 450 Edited February 9, 200817 yr by Superbird440
February 9, 200817 yr I understood that it wasn't your bird and you were just asking the mutation. As for banding I am sure the breeders on the forum can tell you better. If you are getting back into breeding it would be I assume for not only mutations but health, quality and maybe show and if that is the case then I would common sense thing that getting a bird with a leg band is good because you can trace it back to the breeder.
February 10, 200817 yr Author Thank you all for the warm welcome! Hope to be a member of your group for a long time!
February 10, 200817 yr A legband tell you the birds age roughly ( year of ringing ) and also, in most cases bred by a responsible bird breeder. Just means less chance its from an indescriminate backyard bird breeder and more chance it was bred with much thought and care gone into its parentage and genetics and so on. However, some breeders when selling birds to petshops and dealers cut off the legrings. Suffice to say if a bird is young and has no legring then it was most likely not bred by anyone in a budgerigar club. Well, thats how it happens here in Australia anyway .
