I have a question. When I had two birds in a smaller cage having them inside was not an issue now I have four in a much larger cage there is an issue with mess and noise. So I built a solid cap on one end of the cage (covers one whole end and wraps around the sides of the cage) so that they would have shelter from the wind and I cover them at night as long as it is not going to be to hot. However I have had mixed messages from people. A few have said that they will freeze to death out there and others have said that it should be fine. They are on my back porch with is under cover and I push them up into the corner so that two sides of the cage are against the walls, one has the cap and the top and front is covered with a blanket. A friend has her with less shelter outside and they seem to be find and I think about some of the cages that I have seen that are suppose to go outside and think they should be fine but now worry. They do still come in for a while each week to have some out of the cage time in my office (which I then spent the next few hours getting poo off my walls).

 

Is this okay? or should I be bringing them in at night?

Sounds fine to me and you are going the extra mile to think it through. Aviary birds dont get it so good :glare:

Maybe a rethink for winter if need be and the temps are too low, but all sounds good so far

My birds live in an aviary out back all year round, your birds should be fine with adequit shelter :glare:

Hey it's summer here in melbourne and I folded and brought them into the study as it's 9 degrees out side! It is suppose to be summer! They are all sitting down the bottom of the cage trying to catch the warm draft from the heating ducks in the floor :hap:

I know, it's freezing! Well in comparison to the warmer weather we've had. When I got Artemis out of her cage this morning and she was trembling, but a few minutes of running around playing warmed her right up .

they should be happy birds.

Mine are always outside, underneath an awning which has protection against rain, but not so much wind. They seem to be doing okay
