Posted February 7, 200817 yr Today I met up with Chrysocome (great to finally meet you ) and brought home Olive. She is the cutest little thing and I can already see she has a great personality. She attempted to escape her quarantine cage (lucky I had pegged all the doors), that kept her occupied for a good hour or so. Then she proceeded to jump in her seed and kick it *everywhere*, but that wasn't good enough for little Olive, she then chewed on the food dish, before removing it from the side of the cage and dumping it on the floor, so the rest of the seed spilled out. After that, she chewed up the newspaper on the floor of her cage, destroyed her carrot, chewed the perch, managed to knock the other perch down (how I'll never know, I wedged it in there tight!), broke the ball toy into its four seperate parts (so that's now 'in the shop') and then had a bath in her water dish . I love her so much already! Little Miss Olive "What is the shiny silver thing you keep sticking in my face?!" Just before the seed dish went bye-bye's (and you can see the knocked down perch) "I didn't make this mess, honest!" Chewing the other perch Edited February 7, 200817 yr by Bec Sta

February 7, 200817 yr Cheeky!!! She would have caused a riot in my avairy!!! It looks like shredder and foraging toys wouldn't last long within a beaks reach of her :(Laughing out loud): ... She is sure a cutie pie though. Best of luck with her.
February 7, 200817 yr glad to see she's gone to a wonderful home Bec, she seems like she's loving it there already as any bird would!! :glare:
February 7, 200817 yr Congrats on adopting Olive. I have seen so many birds get adopted from other forum members and in this case rescue over that last 2 years. It is so rewarding to see this because you really know who the birds are going too. That is how I found Merlin too right on the forum. Though Lisa his prior mom doesn't come any more I still send her pictures.
February 7, 200817 yr I LOVE OLIVE ! Talk about loads of Budgie Attitude. She sure showed you what she thought of her new home. A prisoner budgie banging a tin cup against the bars & yelling " GUARD GUARD I WANT OUTTA THIS PLACE ... TAKE ME TO THE WARDEN ! " She is going to really make your life more interesting. Please keep us posted with more of her antics. She sounds like a riot.
February 8, 200817 yr she looks like a little sweetheart, l'm glad that you where able to adopt this precious one. I LOVE OLIVE ! Talk about loads of Budgie Attitude. February 8, 200817 yr Author Thanks guys . She really is a funny little budgie, today started off pretty much the same way, put some carrot and corn in, it was shredded to pieces (though some was eaten which is good), seed bowl was filled, promptly dumped on the floor (but again she ate some), she managed to chew a few holes in her blanket cover, then dumped the water bowl, that led to a change in newspaper (again) and more seed. She may destroy everything in site but she has real character. I'll have to give her a eucalyptus branch later.
February 8, 200817 yr :(Laughing out loud): I can't tell you how I feel right now. I have a huge grin and my heart is filled with happiness. She sure is a character! Such a sweet girl, and full of cheekiness - you can see it in her eyes. I'm sure she'll keep you occupied! I wonder how long that eucalyptus will last... I see you kept my ingenious name for her She was also called Houdini when she was here, and I'm sure you know why! I can't wait to see her with other budgies, flying around and just being happy to be alive. It was a pleasure to meet you. Thank you so much, I am so joyed to know that she will be loved and looked after! This one has a little place in my heart so please post lots of pictures Oh and Maesie - thanks again for offering to take her home. What you see here is why I didn't want to have her at my place for too long - one day she's already caused this much damage! I just couldn't supervise her with work and uni. But it's good to know that you are near me, as I'm sure I will meet plenty more budgies that need love and care Edited February 8, 200817 yr by Chrysocome

This one has a little place in my heart so please post lots of pictures I'd put my money on the eucalyptus not lasting very long at all . Houdini will definitely be her nickname for sure! I think your ingenious name really suits her, so Olive it is . I will be sure to keep you updated and post lots of pictures.
February 8, 200817 yr Oh and Maesie - thanks again for offering to take her home. But it's good to know that you are near me, as I'm sure I will meet plenty more budgies that need love and care Completely understand!!! You'd never know what you'd find (or not) when you got home . I guess it was just a pity my flock is/was unwell or I could have taken her straight away. However, I know Bec will take good care of her, and I too can't wait to see her in the avairy with her budgie friends!!! And yep... keep me in mind for others needing love and care P.S. Bec, I've got plenty of newspaper if you need more for the bottom of the cage
February 8, 200817 yr A DAY IN THE LIFE OF OLIVE ! Why are there seeds all over the bottom of my cage ? OH Lady ... LADYYYYYYY ... HELLLLLOOOOOOO LADY ! YOU HOOO ! CARE GIVER ? My seed dish is empty. You think I am going to put up with that ? HOW DARE YOU ! And by the way ... Why is there such corn & carrot debris hanging around the bars of my prison cell here ? Who threw that all over the place ? WHAT A MESS ... I mean really .... leaving my cage in such shambles. I am not happy with this. WHO DO I HAVE TO SPEAK TO ABOUT THE LEVEL OF CARE & ATTENTION I NEED ? DO I HAVE TO FLY OVER TO THAT PHONE & DIAL PETA MYSELF ? I WILL ... DON'T MAKE ME. I mean really. Some birds keepers ... sheesh. Don't make me shred something ... like ... (Olive looking around cage) hmmmm .... those curtains look like they are pretty close. & those sheer curtains look like they would be chewy ! (Olive reaching thru bars & snagging pretty lace sheers) OH ... YOOOO HOOOO LADY Look what I have ! I made these things some holes to let the sun in from the window. These sheer things were not that pretty until I fixed them. Oh and yes ... My bathwater is dirty. WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS NOT MY BATHWATER ? It had water in it, didn't it ? It's where I wash my pretty budgie hair & stuff ... ain't it ? I mean how do you expect me to look so good ? I must wash my hair & stuff ! Really ... I can't drink out of this ... what are you thinking ? GET me some fresh clean bottled Evian water .... & hurry it up. I don't have all day. Actually .... I want some of that fizzy bottled water. That will make me feel all fresh & sparkly. Gee's .... what does a girl have to do to get some attention around here ? What's the number for PETA anyways ? 911 ?

February 12, 200817 yr :(Laughing out loud): I just thought I'd share some of my own photos of Olive. Full of spirit! Try to prevent me from escaping through the bottom bars eh? No mere paper is impervious to my beak! *chewchewchew* (That's Little upstairs ) How is she going?
February 12, 200817 yr how cute thank you for sharing it is interesting to see the stories of the rescues and pictures too.
February 13, 200817 yr Author :(Laughing out loud): I just thought I'd share some of my own photos of Olive. Full of spirit! Try to prevent me from escaping through the bottom bars eh? No mere paper is impervious to my beak! *chewchewchew* (That's Little upstairs :ausb: ) How is she going? Thanks for sharing the pics Chryso ! She is doing great! I love her to death, she just has soooo much personality. Though I feel very guilty keeping her in her quarantine cage, because all she wants to do is get to the other budgies. Yesterday I got 3 new budgies and two new cages so I thought I may aswell clean out all the other bird cages. Hers was the first to be cleaned....I had to change the newspaper 3 more times that day because she had dumped her water on it. So I had to keep filling up her water container too (I'm going to invest in one of those external water containers, can't remember what they are called though). Then when she dumped her water for the last time (this was about 7pm)....we had run out of newspaper! Unbelievable (Laughing out loud) (mum had taken the recycling out that morning and I had forgotten to take out more papers). ....And then she crawled beneath her seed dish and head butted it a few times, so that fell down too. Seed stuck to wet newspaper....fantastic. I've also used 12 pegs (I use three at a time, one for wach door) because she has chewed them back so far they don't clamp down on the bars. I've had to replace one of the original natural perches because it got too thin from chewing. I fixed th ball toy, put it back in, it was in pieces not five minutes later. And she's chewed a few holes in her cover blanket. Oh and everytime I open the door to change her water/food (which is quite often!) she'll jump down onto the floor and try to sqeeze out past my arm, so I have to be very careful. She is so cool! :oliveb: :oliveb: :nest: This afternoon I'm giving her a eucalyptus branch, we'll see how long that lasts, I'll get some pictures and possibly a vid.
February 14, 200817 yr What a nice quiet contented calm budgie sweet Olive is. I LIKE HER ! Sure you won't mind parting with her ? I will be over later to pick her up. OKay ? Thanks.
