Trill Toppers

Featured Replies

I have never seen Trill Toppers before in Australia but I saw some at the supermarket and bought some, my birds LOVE them. I only feed them one or twice a week

Does anyone else buy these?

They are just like honey sticks except they are round any come with a little holder which clips onto the cage.

Budgiedude :)

its funny you should saythat. i got rocky some trill toppers the other day. he loved it too and ate it in less than a day. He is very greedy so i shall ration him to one a week. The one i gave him was the egg one. I haven't tried him with the others.

My birds' favourite are the herb ones, i wonder if one of the herbs is parsley... They L-O-V-E parsley

Yes mine absolutely adore them but when they've eaten most of it Budgy2 seems to enjoy breaking it up and flinging the bits on the floor.

hay,

i posted just after xmas about these asking has any one used them. do you feed these on their own or in addition to the normal seeds. sky doesnt use the trill toppers as much as his normal seeds because he has to work a little more to get ahold of a seed. thanks

I just use them as an occasional treat but because Budgy2 is on a fitness regime at the moment they haven't had them for a while.

Julie

I only feed once or twice a week, they always have seeds :)

PS: Sky, i didnt see your post as I was away just after xmas ^_^

no probs budgiedude,

about feeding once or twice a week it says on the back one tablet per day. but he does not use it while he has seeds.

i think that one a day is excessive if they are treats. i think the companies who make these just want you to buy more of them. its like the sandpaper sheets that i buy....they recommend having sandpaper perches, but we all know that they can cause harm to feet....

but thats it im not sure if they are treats, they are seeds with apple nut egg and herbs in them.

Check the ingredients for sugar, or some form of it like sucrose, or corn syrup (honey included). If there is a lot of sugars, or they are one of the first 3 or 4 ingredients, then I would classify them as treats to be fed VERY sparingly.

rainbow this means nothing to me hope it does to some one.

seeds, cereals, derivatives of vegetable origin, meat and animal derivatives, minerals, vegtables, fruit (dried apple min 1%), nuts (peanuts min 1%), milk, milk derivatives, herbs (parsley min 0.33%), vegtable protein extracts, algae, oilsand fats, egg, egg derivatives (egg powder min 0.1%), yeasts

ANALYSIS (%)

crude protein 13.5

crude oil 5.8

crude ash 5.7

crude fibre 7.0

FEEDING INSTRUCTIONS

feed one trill toppers tablet per day in the food bowl or in the holder provided. Make sure your bird always has fresh water avalible.

this says to me that you feed only this no additional seeds.

Hi,

I know it says one a day but to me they are like treats because you dont feed them constantly like you do with seed or pellets.

Millet doesnt contain honey or artificial sugars but they are still fattening

I agree with you Pixie25

i dont think they work out expensive. for 2 weeks worth it costs about the same as the seeds. this way as well you can see a lot more quickly and efficiently if they stop eating. i have just compared the food analysis to the trill seeds and trill toppers.

trill toppers have %more:

crude protein- 0.5% more

crude oil/fat (i presume they are the same says fat on seeds and oil on toppers) -0.5% more

Crude ash- 0.7% more

Crude fibre- 1% more.

so i dont think they are meant as treats.

i bought these for my budgie louey but hes not interested in them at all , he only likes seed and millet, weird budgie!!

I've always thought of them as treats I've never brought them but, I saw the price and freaked, plus my girl Freckle just chews things like that to bites. The seed sticks last maybe half a day she will just sit there and break it up until it is all gone, telling the rest of them away from it.

But looking at that list I can't see a reason that they can't have it every day, but still I would just follow the packet, if your bird like budgiedude birds rip into enjoying it as something special then I would leave it like that, if your bird on the other hand leaves it alone unless hungry then I can't see why it can't be given everyday. :bluebudgie:

skittle treats it just like his food, and this way i no he is getting a little friut etc.
