i went to the pet shop this morning to look at breeding cabinets and came home with a new baby budgie. Her name is Milly and i am fairly certain she is a girl and only about 3 months old. i think she is a olive normal, if i am wrong about the type can some one correct me.My husband was not quite happy, he said i am only supposed to be buying pieds at the moment but i could not resist her.

I would say hen too.

She is very pretty ^_^

Is she quarentened?

As for colours... I'm not good with that hehehehe

She is a lovely little girl...not 3 months though....more like 6-7 weeks. Olive only if her tail is navy blue. If her tail is black she is a grey green. I like the name you chose ^_^

thanks kaz for the age, i find it hard to work out the age, all i know that is they have bars on their head then they are younger than 5/6 months. i had a close look at her tail and it looks more navy blue . she is quarintened,i have 9 in the aviary they i am not going to risk getting sick. I called her Milly because i bought her to breed with Billie who is a grey spangle. i know she is too young yet but would they make a good pair and what would the outcomes be? she has settle in well, she can hear the birds in the aviary and has been calling out to them.

Got to agree with Kaz she is younger than 3 months. I think Grey Green cause the cheek patches look grey to me. Is that correct?

i find it hard to work out the colour of her check spots because they are so small.will they get bigger as she gets older. i went and look at her tail and it seems to be a dark green colour with the end of the tail black. her markings have got me confused.

Its the cheek patches you need to look at not the spots. Also can you take photos of the cheeks patches and the tail ?

i will try to get some more photos of her face and tail later today, my husband has gone to the beach to go four wheel driving and took the camera.i meant patches not spots, her patches are smaller then what my other birds have.

Oh Deb, milly's just divine! What a sweet little poppet. I love her colours :)

i had a closer look at Milly, i did not want to stress her out when i got her home so i had not pick her up. she has settle down well so i pick her up and her tail is navy blue and patches seem to be blue to me so i would that mean she is a olive. Her is a photo of her head and tail, kaz.

That's what we women do! Millie looks a lovely little thing so no wonder you couldn't leave her there, and her tail looks far more interesting than a prawn's tail. :D

Well its not a grey green , And im suspect about olive the tail feather doesnt seem to be dark enough , Im going dark green with Daz.

the flash in the camera made the tail look lighter than it is,but her tail seems to be dark green.when i bought her i thought she was a grey green and i was going to pair her with my grey spangle. would they still be a good pair. the other males i own are sky blue spangle, blue split recessive pied, blue/white recessive pied.what do people recommended would be a good type to pair her with. i am going to a budgie show next sunday and looking for more birds.

They would still make a good pair even if she is olive or dark green

thanks for that lone budgie. i have done colony breeding for last 3 years and now i am changing to cabinets so i am trying to understand what budgies to pair together to get nice colours.
