April 3, 200817 yr OMG THEY ARE GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!! the Journey man looks almost EXACTLY like my Zeus!! YEAH 16TH PAGE!! Edited April 3, 200817 yr by Indz♥
April 5, 200817 yr Author okay, big clean up today, boxes fully cleaned out, and so photos taken. Good and bad news as always. Angel and Hugo They are going well, all their young are coming along well. Gabriel, formerly Pale Ale is feathering up well. he is going to have a lot more black than his siblings, and the Journeyman is looking very good, no signs of leaving the nest soon. It is funny, as I am expecting the journeyman to fledge anytime now, but I forget that he is the youngest of Sebby and Cheese's so he shoudl technically not leave the nestbox until they do. Anyway, photos below. Hugo and Angel Hugo is always eating, as you can tell by is face. Hungry mouths to feed. The Journeyman Eldest 2nd Eldest - verey few marking for a single factor dominant pied Gabriel, formerly pale ale Pile of cuties Sebby and Cheese Sebby has built her strength up and has returned to the aviary. Cheese is doing all the fatherly duties as the young are fledging. Cheese is a good teacher Eldest on his own 2nd eldest eating seed, then corn Young ones now are venturing out, demanding food. More photos in next post, that I cannot post until someome replies to this one i think Edited April 5, 200817 yr by Dave_McMinn
April 5, 200817 yr Author Thanks Maesie, here are the rest of them as there were too many photos for one post so it continues here..... Tralia and Nibbler This is where the sad news comes in. the 5th little one did not make it. I looked in the nest box today and he was dead. Maybe he did not get enough food with the others demanding it? I am not sure. Sad. Anyway, the 4 survivors are going well. Eldest is definitely a Cobalt Cinnamon Spangle. Check out the close-up shot i took of the wings? 2nd is a yellow faced blue. normal wings 3rd and 4th are both spangles, one is white based and one is yellow based. Very cute. So there we go, by my next update, all of Sebby and Cheese's shoudl be fledged. The sooner they are eating on their own, the sooner they can be considered for a little trip to Deb's house. More feathering and fledging to come.
April 5, 200817 yr Sorry to hear about Tralia and Nibbler youngest one. It's sad to loose any birds, regardless of how old they are. Maybe they only wanted to raise 4 bubs, or maybe they knew something was wrong with it. They always say mother knows best. Anyway... the remaining 4 look really well. It's so cool to see such difference colours and variations in the one nest.
April 5, 200817 yr They are great photos and very beautiful babies. My quarantine cages are ready and waiting and so am i. Hey Dave, are you are beer or wine person?
April 5, 200817 yr Author Deb, I am actually a non-drinker these days, so beer or wine would be wasted on me. Sorry.
April 5, 200817 yr Deb, I am actually a non-drinker these days, so beer or wine would be wasted on me. Sorry. i will have to think of something else as a thank you gift seeing you will not let me pay for the birds.
April 5, 200817 yr Your little babies look fantastic Dave Best batch you have ever had.... I love your little JOURNEY-WOMAN and GABRIELLE the best and you have a lot of other hens amongst those as well Hugo and Angels dom pieds both seem to be DF dom pieds which makes Angel hiding the Dom pied gene too doesnt it. Edited April 5, 200817 yr by KAZ
April 5, 200817 yr Author I did know not if the Ino gene can mask the dom pied gene Give it some thought Deb - (Laughing out loud)!!
April 5, 200817 yr Great Photos Dave. It is amazing to see the different colours... and out of only 2 clutches. Can't wait to see Gabriel fledge... that will be an exciting day. :glare:
April 6, 200817 yr Author 2 clutches actually Jimmy; Sebby and Cheese. Tralia and Nibbler and Hugo and Angel. Well, all of Sebby and Cheese's little ones have left the nest box. They are all learning to crack seed, eat corn and flap their wings. I am going to clean up the little avairy and they will all be placed in their. Give them a chance to fly around before confronting life in the big aviary. A lot of hens in this lot. Strange that there are so many. Deb, one of my cousins may want a male budgie, so I am hoping to hear from him ASAP. He is only 12, so obviously his mother has a big say. I can give them a cage and all of that stuff, and if it does not work out, he can always be returned to the aviary. If he wants a little one, it will probably be one of the pieds, so I have to see. I think I will keep all of the dom pieds (3), the spangles (3), the one of the recessive pieds, and probably the journeywoman (yes, the journeyman is female), so that would leave 2 recessive pieds and 2 cinnamon wings (one of which is an opaline goldenface and the other is a yellowface). So it looks like at least 3 are coming your way, possibly 5. Is that cool? Anyone else in Sydney looking for any baby budgies?
April 6, 200817 yr that is fine dave, i would appreciate whatever budgies came my way but i would especially love the recessive pieds and the opaline.
April 6, 200817 yr Author okay Deb, this is where we are. My cousin said no so that is it. That means that these are the ones that are looking for a new home. Eldest chick from Sebby and Cheese - a yellow faced type 2 sky blue recessive pied cock 2nd chick from Sebby and Cheese - a yellow faced type 1 sky blue cinnamon wing hen 3rd chick from Sebby and Cheese - a golden faced type 2 opaline cinnamon wing cobalt hen 5th chick from Sebby and Cheese - a yellow faced type 2 violet ressive pied cock Maybe 2nd chick from Tralia and Nibbler - looks to be a yellow faced blue, not sure on type 1 or 2 or gender yet. I think this little one is male. If he is, then he stays. If not, then he might be looking for a new home. Discriminating on the basis of gender? Yesiree!!!!!!!!! As for the genders, so far we have established that Sebby and Cheese have what looks to be 3 boys and 3 girls, including the journeywoman who needs a name...please help here people. Tralia and Nibbler have what looks to be 2 boys and 2 girls Hugo and Angel look to have 2 girl and 1 boy, but too early to tell here i think with these guys. I will try to get some better cere shots.
April 6, 200817 yr i would be happy to take all of the chicks looking for a new home, a really need some variety in my flock. I am already thinking about what a nice pair the 5th chick would make with my skyblue violet spangle hen.
April 6, 200817 yr GREEN with envy Deb!!! :yellowhead: You lucky thing you... :yellowhead: I think I definately live in the wrong state... (Laughing out loud)
April 6, 200817 yr GREEN with envy Deb!!! :yellowhead: You lucky thing you... :yellowhead: I think I definately live in the wrong state... (Laughing out loud) i think i am very lucky and i am really grateful to Dave for letting me have some of his babies.
April 6, 200817 yr Author I would rather they go to a good home with an aviary than they go to a pet shop or, and I know I may offend others on here, a cage.
April 7, 200817 yr Author Well, all have fledged in sebby and Cheese's breeding cage. The journeychick is starting to have a peek out of the box, so I figure she will appear soon. I know that 2 of the chicks in tha box are double factor dom pieds, however I think that Gabrielle might actually be a single factor dom pied that is split to Ino. She has alot of black so i am unsure. We will see. No sign of movement yet in terms of fledging for nibbler and tralias young. Anxious!!!
