The "new" Aviary...

Featured Replies

Well, while my plans to build an aviary in the fernery have been delayed, due to the fact that mum and dad decided they wanted to renovate it first (then afterward I can have a bigger aviary than what was originally planned, well that's what they bribed me with anyway :D .)

So my grandparents kindly donated their old cockatoo cage which my uncle made, we had to make a few adjustments; add wire mesh as the gaps were HUGE, make a safety-door, add a roof etcetera.

But all in all I think it turned out really well for a temporary aviary (though we still need to do a few more small things), plus when the other one eventually gets built, I can get a parrot like I always wanted...though I havn't told my parents of those plans just yet :D .

Welldone , so whats the parrot of preference ?? :D

Its a good start and makes waiting for the other new section easier. Great compromise and very helpful of your family .....birdies should be very happy.

Look great Bec...pity about the fernery though. I guess if it means you'll get a bigger one in the long run it's a win win situation! Your birds are going to LOVE the space .....keen to know your parrot of choice also!.....

Well the 'big move' is tomorrow, so I hope they like their new home (though Skittles and Jinx are staying as my inside budgies)

And as for my parrot preference....I don't know!

I have a (very long) list that I will have to narrow down.

I very much like Alexandrines, though I've only done very basic research so I don't if the cage would be large enough, though I would get a hand reared baby and he/she would spend all day inside with me.

I also love sun conures, but I've read they can be noisey.

And eclectus are stunning!

So hard to chose, there are so many beautiful birds.

Yeah, mum and dad said if I really wanted it, we could build it and renovate later, but I couldn't do that.

They understand that my birds (and pets in general) are not just my hobby but my entire life and they do a lot for me (such as neat-freak mum putting up with husks on my carpet :) ) so even though it wasn't my first preference, I was more than happy to compromise.

And yes, I will be forever grateful to nanna and grandpa :P .
