Came home today to discover Bailey (male budgie) preening Cookie (male tiel). It was so cute. I was quite surprised because up until now Cookie hasnt really tolerated Bailey, often trying to nip at him. So this is a huge turn around. Is it normal for two boys to preen each other?

i asked a similar question a little while ago and got told it is normal behaviour. i have two male budgies that are the best of friends, when they are out of the cage they follow each other everywhere and are constantly kissing and preening each other.

It's perfectly normal for two boys to bond and be best buddies.

 

You have no idea how confused i was to see this topic, i have a male and female tiel called Bailee and Cookie.

I'll try and get a picture next time i see them preening if i'm quick enough.

Bea I was thinking the same as you (Laughing out loud)...I thought it was you. Yes very normal preening is a friendship type of behavior just like in other species of animals . Pretty and Merlin loved to preen each other.
