Look Who Flew Into My Yard

I first saw her around noon today.

At first I thought one of my birds had escaped but quickly realised they were all secure.

She let me get within about 2 feet of her before moving away, I could see that she had an injured foot and couldn't put any weight on it.

I saw her a couple more times but she was more wary.

Just after 5pm I went up the back again and she was there again. By this time I was worried as there are alot of hawks, eagles, magpies and butcher birds out here and they are all very efficient hunters and this little girl stood out like a sore thumb.

While trying to coax her out of the sheoak I had some assistance from a local honeyeater (I guess he was being playful) he started chasing her around the neighbourhood. After about a 45 second full on flight frenzy she landed at the suspended again & I went up and netted her. I guess she was winded after all the fast flying!

I found out she bites hard too!

I'll keep an eye out in the neighbourhood for flyers for a lost budgie & mum will keep her ear to the ground for whispers too.

Here she is - bit wet from her foot treatment, I got more on her than on her foot!
