There was one of my breeding pairs that hatched out two chicks. The mother fed one chick and repeatedly threw out the first chick into the breeder cabinet. Luckily I found it each time and warmed it ( it was stone cold and near dead ) and each time I put it back under the hen to be fed. She threw it out three times in all and the chick wasnt faring well. So I gave it to foster parents to raise. I mentioned it on our forum before and there was a discussion about parents sometimes "knowing something" about a chick that isnt quite right and trying to get rid of the problem. Some parents do know and do that ....other parents are just silly and do silly things.

I decided to wait and see what issues this little chick would have IF it survived to see if the parents really did know something was wrong with it.

 

BUT the chick has fledged and is fine in a lot of ways. Happy little boy. Very LUCKY little boy he is.

In the "wild" this would be a chick that was dead the second it was thrown from the nest. But it seems, its worth TRYING

She threw out the first hatched and raised the second hatchling and just kept throwing out the first hatchling.
