I have some really bad news...

 

Poor little Romeo has a broken leg! I don't know how it happened... I feel so awful!!! Poor thing.

 

He is currently on paid medication & also some calcium stuff.

 

 

I wish I could just fix it and make it all better

I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

the good news is that he will recover just keep an eye on him such a behavior changes that could indicate infection or fever keep us updated

Poor Romeo!! The good news is that we have had other members on here with the same problem (Riebie being one of them) and their budgies recuperated just fine! All will be well!

Have you taken him to the vet to get a splint put on? That will help it heal straight.

I took Romeo to the vet again and he had an xray- It showed he had eaten some sort of metal.

Also, what was thought to be the break wasnt actually there but it looked like there had been some trauma lower down the leg.

So the vet said to keep giving him the meds - the main concern would be any side effects of poisoning.

 

So I took him home and a few days later he died.

 

I wish she had taken the xray the first time. He may have died anyway but you never know.

Oh Loren So very sorry for the loss of Romeo. May he rest in peace. It's so hard to make sure they don't eat things they shouldn't, especailly because they are always into everything!!! The metal may not have been there the first time you took him in, and even if it was, and it was causing the symptions, it was probably too late then anyway (I think once poisoning shows its self it is usually too late, esp. with smaller animals) Please try not to blame yourself though. You took him to the vet when you were worried about him, that's more than some lousy pet owners do!. He knows you loved him and that he will always have a special place in your heart. I am so sorry for your loss.

 

And even though there is not much that can ease the grief of losing a much loved pet, atleast you can live in the knowledge that you did everything you possibly could for him.

If our budgies knew how very much we loved everyone of them, they would stick around longer. Unfortunately they are not invincible....such a pity :angel1:
