Posted December 17, 200717 yr Hi all, I have recently been reading some of the posts to do with breeding on the forum and I may start breeding next year. I am also reading the FAQ's and other sources about breeding. I've decided to start next year as I want to be totally prepared for every situation and I want to make sure that I know exactly what I'm doing before getting into it. I am planning to colony breed and have got 4 pairs already. If anybody has any main points or tips about colony breeding it would be great if you could reply to this post. Points about anything!... anything that you find important. Thanks .

Colony VS Closed breeding I have seen your aviary Little One :rip: May I advise, you close off one end with a door, and put some breeder cabinets in there ( I will give you three ) and do the closed breeding in there. The breeding birds will be near and can hear the others ( which helps ) and the breeding will be safer. Since you wont be home all day and are at school....you can check the breeder cages in the morning before you leave and at night when you get home Edited December 17, 200717 yr by KAZ
December 17, 200717 yr Author I will have to have a think about that Kaz and thanks for the offer of the breeding cabinets . It might be too hard to close off one half of my aviary so, when I start breeding I will take out a few pairs and breed them in the breeding cabinets, I think you saw our shed in our backyard where we were treating one of our birds, anyway, I may put cabinets in there to do the closed breeding, but, like I said, I'll have to think about it as my Dad was keen on colony breeding. Thanks alot :rip:. Edited December 17, 200717 yr by Little one
December 17, 200717 yr One thing you need to think about before you start breeding is what will you do with the babies? Will you keep them? Find them "good homes" etc...there is such an overpopulations of pets that the end results of breeding needs to be thought about which are the "babies" that are produced .
December 17, 200717 yr Author I think I'm going to find new homes for the babies and maybe keep a few .
