Posted November 23, 200717 yr Hi all, My first breeding pair for the year were expecting yesterday. I'm like a nervous mother!!! My other two pairs eggs were all infertile and they haven't laid a second clutch as yet. These expectant parents are also first timers. All my budgies are blue and grey, so the Mum 'Crackle' is grey, but her partner was found and is green, so I'm looking forward at the likelyhood of getting more greenies... Her eggs look different to those of the other hens... they're quite white and when I candled them at the begining they looked promising! It's so hard to wait!!!!!!!!! I'm still just checking twice daily as I don't want to stress her, but am spending quite a lot of time watching and listening from afar . Crackle when she was younger (Is now about 2) And her manly man Tweet Tweet So... here's hoping to some new arrivals. Will keep you posted. By the way, she has 4 :nest: 's
November 24, 200717 yr good luck. The male is a grey-green opaline so all girl babies will be opaline.
November 24, 200717 yr Author good luck. The male is a grey-green opaline so all girl babies will be opaline. Oh, thanks. I know this is not the topic for this, but does that mean the girls will be like him? I'm not good with all the genetics etc... What about the boys?
November 24, 200717 yr yeps all the baby girls will have the opaline like him and all the boys will be split to opaline
November 24, 200717 yr Author yeps all the baby girls will have the opaline like him and all the boys will be split to opaline okay... think I'm sort of starting to understand it... (Laughing out loud). As Green is dominant over grey, does that mean they'll all be green? Or will it depend on the sex? Sorry if I'm repeating myself
November 24, 200717 yr for my knowledge of what colours you'll get from them i think the options are greens, grey-green and grey... not positive on that also depends on splits

November 24, 200717 yr Author Any chance of an updated picture of the Mum as well as the Dad ? yeah, no probs. This is the best shot I could get of Mum (crackle), she doesn't come out of the nest box much and was a little scared of my camera. This is Dad(Tweet Tweet) The two on the left are Crackle's mum and dad. I'm not sure about Tweet Tweets parents as I found him a few months ago.
November 27, 200717 yr Author Crackle looks cinnamon to me?? Oh and good luck with the babies Thanks everyone for your responses... and am STILL waiting!!!! I've figured out it's about 19 days today since the second of 5 eggs were laid. One was infertile and removed... I'm baseing my calculations on the fact that the infirtile one was the first one. I checked on Mum and eggs this arvo, and I reakin I saw a small crack!?!? However It may have just been poo or something , as I prob just hoping it was a crack! Will let you know when/if any bubs arrive.
November 28, 200717 yr Author I love it when yo can hear the little eggs peeping before they hatch Well... still nothing to report. Not even peeping :fear I did however candle them to make sure they had something in them... There is a very visable line between the air sack and 'darkness' the inside didn't really move around much when I moved it, and the eggs are really 'white'. I also think I may have seen a 'foot' or something move inside one... but I could be just making it up . Really hoping I have some exciting news to report soon!!! Do the eggs sound okay???
November 28, 200717 yr Yep that sounds good Sounds like a little chickee in side that one. Sometimes eggs can take upto 25 days to hatch, depends on the temperture and how tightly mum sat on them.
November 28, 200717 yr waiting is the worse bit keep the fingers crossed and give them a few more days.
November 29, 200717 yr Author waiting is the worse bit :hap: keep the fingers crossed and give them a few more days. Some news!?!? On my morning check, I found Crackle (mum) happily playing and not near/on her eggs. On further inspection, the eggs were stone cold. She had decided she had done enough mothering duties!!! NOT HAPPY JAN. :budgiedance: So, I moved the four eggs into next door, where Jonah, had three eggs which she was sitting on. I moved her eggs into crackle's nest box. Those eggs are infertile. So.... Jonah now has Crackle's eggs... Still following??? (Laughing out loud). One of them had a small hole/crack, which has now fully opened and the chick is sort of out of it... Can the hens happen to help them out when they are not ready??? It still looks like it's conected??? and it bleed a bit too??? Not sure if it will survive. It was wriggling round lots, but no noises thus far. In previous clutches (to other mothers) I haven't noticed this. Does anyone have a picture of a hatching chick and/or just hatched... Fingers crossed anyway. Will check again in a few hours. :feedbirds:

The orginal hole/crack looked as though it was made from the outside (by mum/dad) not from the inside by the chick... So I guess it was not meant to be... :angel1: Still three to go! Let's hope their foster parents take a little more care!!!
November 29, 200717 yr I have had some hens destroy all the eggs when the first few didn’t hatch & when smashed it was clear that some later eggs had viable chicks in them, maybe just a little impatient…good luck you may still save a few.
November 30, 200717 yr Author I have had some hens destroy all the eggs when the first few didn't hatch & when smashed it was clear that some later eggs had viable chicks in them, maybe just a little impatient…good luck you may still save a few. To update you all. No luck. All chicks either died after hatching (ants) or were dead inside... think the cold chill they got when mum left them, and yeah... I guess it was just meant to be. Unfortunatley. Will def be doing something about those #@*!?% ANTS!!!!! Thanks all for your help etc... during my breeding times...
