Posted November 3, 200717 yr When I was checking nestboxes this morning, one of the hens came back into the nestbox and tossed some eggs and a chick around a little acting silly. Next thing...one of her eggs came flying out of the nestbox as she soccer-booted it into the air. It came straight out and landed four feet away on the concrete floor with a SPLAT !!When I got to the egg it had broken open. I picked it up, thinking we would have a partly formed bleeding near dead or dying chick in it. I removed the shell as it was broken all over. There was a chick inside that seemed almost ready to hatch. Surprisingly there was no blood and the yolk sac seemed to have been absorbed...indicating a chick due anytime to hatch. Then the smashed up chick in the smashed up egg gave a bit of a wriggle and came to life. I removed it from the remaining bits of eggshell and held it in my hand. I expected it to die. Well that was this morning and after I put it in the hens nest, by this evening it has been fed and is healthy and warm and active with its sibling in the nestbox. Most certainly a MIRACLE chick !! I am amazed
November 3, 200717 yr Kaz you always have the most amazing experiences. How neat that you were that at the right place at the right time to save this little chick from his near experience death.
November 4, 200717 yr My visions of a hen kicking out an egg while you were there was hilarious! A truly amazing story and hope the little fighter stays well.Lucky you were there.
November 4, 200717 yr Quite an interesting story. I think you'll have to give this chick a soccer related name for starting out life as a soccer ball. :yellowhead:

November 4, 200717 yr He is a little lucky thing then. How about being named after a soccer player who scored a really hard, almost miraculous goal
November 4, 200717 yr Author He is a little lucky thing then. How about being named after a soccer player who scored a really hard, almost miraculous goal I know nothing about soccer or sports stars.

November 4, 200717 yr Well I like Humpty Dumpty my self (even if he wasn't broken in the end :budgiedance:)
November 4, 200717 yr I like Humpty personally :budgiedance: glad the little one is doing well. Certainly another miracle in Kaz's avairy.
November 4, 200717 yr I don’t like those panic-stricken hens Kaz, I haven’t had anything as wild as your experience though, mostly I’m sending mad hens like that off to the pet shop. One of the hazards of buying from pet shops..(Laughing out loud).

One of the hazards of buying from pet shops..LOL. Yes. Some hens are weird like that, Norm. I wont send this hen off to the petshop as she carries good bloodlines. Will have to try some calming techniques on her
November 5, 200717 yr Kaz, Â that is amazing!! Â As for names, although I love "Beckham', that is what the hen should be names as she did the soccering. By that theory so far, Humpty, hatrick or miracle fit best. Â Â Feathers.
November 5, 200717 yr Another name for a soccer player is Pele. Don't know that it's applicable, but it's the only other player I know! (well, he used to play)
