Posted October 21, 200717 yr Hi all, My little man seems to be taking a fairly sudden spell of warm weather a bit poorly. He is all lethergic, has his wings out etc etc and is generally a bit dopey. I have given him a shallow bowl of water to paddle around in, and he has plenty of drinking water, but to you guys have any other tips on ways to cool him down? He just doesn't seem his usual self...
October 21, 200717 yr Do you have a fan? In the summer the budgie boys are down here in the air conditioned lounge room, but the tiels are in my room which gets awful. I set up a fan and have it rotating and passing back and forth by their cage. It seems to keep them from getting too hot.
October 21, 200717 yr get some air moving in the room hes in. do extra misting, make sure it doesnt get too cool at night that youve created a cold draft on him. my guys in my room got the fans all day long but a blanket was put up at night so the air wouldnt blow directly on them. you can sometimes pick up mini air conditioners for cheap.
October 21, 200717 yr Having just recommended a fan, i now need to ask my own question. It's been hot here too, and my little genius's figure that means they should fly heaps more and get completely over heated. They hate being misted too. Any other ways to keep them cool out of the cage. I turned the lights mostly off and sat Blinkie (the most over heated) on my finger and gave him a bit of "Bea Air Conditioning".
October 22, 200717 yr even if you dont mist them directly, you can spray icy water into the air and on the bars of their cage, You can try the opposite of what you do for sick birds instead of sticking a hot water bottle to the side of the cage, try and ice pack, it will cool the air around it. as for out of the cage, mini air conditioning units, a fan blowing on some ice packs. chilled washcloths on them or have them step on that.
