Posted October 7, 200717 yr Yesterday we found a breeder and bought some of his birds. He also gave us some good information and asked a lot of questions before he would even sell us any birds, which I thought was good. He confused me a little with a comment he made to me, I told him I had an Albino hen that I would like to mate with the yellow/green pied below and he told me he wouldn't waste his time and when I asked him why he just kept shaking his head??? Can I not breed them or does anybody know what he would be talking about?? I'm sorry I can't remember sort of budgies they are we were there for about 1 1/2 hours and my head was swimming with information when we left. This is the cock I wanted to breed with the Albino hen?
October 7, 200717 yr There is no reason why you can't the outcomes would be normal greens (not taking in hidden or carried genes that are unknown) What type of birds did he have? He is breeding for show he might have mean he wouldn't bother due to the smallish size of the male. Or if he liked the more interesting colours then he mightn't like a lot of normal birds. But the all look great. Green recessive pied Grey Double factor dominant pied Sky blue (or violet sky) spangle opaline.
October 7, 200717 yr Author Thanks for that. the breeder was more into the showing side of it so you would be right. Would the Grey Double factor dominant pied or the Sky blue (or violet sky) spangle opaline be a better mate for our Albino hen?
October 7, 200717 yr Hi Denise, you bought some lovely birds. My first thought was that he was thinking about the best combinations for show breeding. Feathers.
October 7, 200717 yr They are beautiful birds, love the colours. I am in the Bayside area of Vic. Can you tell me where this breeder is or where you found him? We are looking to get some more birds but finding a source (outside of a pet shop) difficult. Thanks Nic
October 7, 200717 yr Denise,If the breeder was in your area,He has many byears of breeding & would know the breeding.A dominant pie to albino would be a waste of time. I will give you a run down on the chicks you would breed from that X Normal green dominiant x Albino =25% green dom pie 25% grey green dom pie. 25%Normal green 25%grey green Now if the dom pie is split blue. The results would be 12% blue, green & grey green dom pie & the same in normal. No albinos.Unless the dom pie is split albino & I dought that. But if you mated up the offspring, next year to a split albino or albino. You would breed albino & lutinos, but that 12 months away.So if you want to breed albinos, buy a albino. Better still buy a split Albino.Perhaps you buy a book about budgies,as you seem keen to breed some budgies.
October 7, 200717 yr Your birds are very pretty. Here's one of mine that I got from a breeder. Sorry if the picture didn't appear.

October 8, 200717 yr Author They are beautiful birds, love the colours.I am in the Bayside area of Vic. Can you tell me where this breeder is or where you found him? We are looking to get some more birds but finding a source (outside of a pet shop) difficult. Thanks Nic Hi Nic, The breeder was in Whittington (suburb of Geelong). If you want his telephone number I will PM you with it just let me know. We found him in our local newspaper, his father also is a breeder but is in the same suburb, I have his number too. Denise
October 8, 200717 yr i disagree with the breeder about a waste of time as i have bred my yellow/green danish pied to a albino 3 times and only once i got a green, all the young were yellow/green danish or blue/white danish and some had very little black markings on them and some were hard to sell. so there is no reason for not breeding your bird to an albino. and it all comes down to what colours your pied is carrying too.
October 8, 200717 yr Timbo,If you wantt breed albinos. You are not going to breed them useing a bird, thats not carrying the albino gene.
