. i wanna know if i can breed easier and faster through colony breeding or by pair breeding.

It is geberally much safer and easier to breed through a closed breeding system as then you are less likely to have fights break out in the aviary and less deaths as a result. Hens will often fight over potential nestboxes and you will require double the number of nestboxes than you have of hens.

With a closed system you are able to keep track of the parents and due hatching dates, with healthier chicks, as you can give them more individual attention. I prefer closed breeding as gthere is much less trauma associated with it and you find that many other breeders on this forum will agree.

I totally agree with sailorwolf.

Its better to breed responsibily not how fast you can get babies and sell them period.

Closed or open that is the first point that should be taken.

In a breeding room you have more control on the pairings and also how the chicks are raised.

You stop the pairs when you wish and move chicks when there is problems.

No all goes well but it's better than colony breeding.

:sad: I am a little concerned Shaq, that you are setting up a business involving living creatures and yet have not established the ground rules for starting it so you haven't done the required research . Thank you for your thoughts Shaunx, great minds think alike! Budgie breeding and bird breeding in general must not be taken lightly, it is a serious affair. Again, this forum advocates responsible breeding and this is evidently not being demonstrated here. :ausb:

If you are going to start a small business, you should have a business proposal written up first. Also make sure you have all the proper paperwork for permits turned in to your local government. It does not sound like you have done quite as much research as you need to yet. I'm sure once you begin to talk to other breeders, store owners, etc. regarding necessary procedures for your aviary things will become much clearer. Although in my opinion, the procedures you want to follow regarding your breeding practices are core and basic, and should already have been established in your mind. Your question intimates you may not be as concerned about your stock as would be prudent for a small business owner...the fastest and easiest way when dealing with living creatures is not usually the best way. If you decide to take that road, you will need to have a fair, firm health guarantee in place that all potential buyers are aware of up front. You will probably need to tap into that fund a little more than you would like to if the fastest and easiest way is what you are truly looking for. I don't want to dissuade you from starting a business, the small business entrepreneur is a wonderful thing. There are many small businesses I frequent instead of larger chains because I like their philosophies and how they conduct business. I do think a little more research is in order for you, because it does not sound like you have done any homework from your question.
