Our Bargain Aviary

Featured Replies

This was our bargain out of the local newspaper today. It was $20.

It is 1.5 metres diameter and 2.4 metres tall and it needs some repairing to be okay for our budgies. We had drawn up plans for this shape with a 2 metre long by 1 metre wide flight extension on the side of it.

My question is how many budgies could we put in that size comfortably?

We won't be colony breeding.

image changed to a link due to size, all posted pics must be within 450x450 pixels :)

Hi Denise,

What a great find!! Along with the attached flight it should make a great home for a pretty flock of budgies. As for the number, each budgie should have at least 5cm of perch space and there should be plenty of room allowed for all to feed comfortably. I don't have any eperience with hexagonal aviaries, but depending on how it is set up I imagine 15 - 20 budgies would be a nice number.

Feathers.

That's a bargain price as you say Denise, the only thing I would say is, what size is the mesh on it, from the photo it looks like it might be too large for Budgies.

Great find for $20!! I was also wondering about the mesh size, but you say it needs some repairing so perhaps that was one of the things you were planning to fix up?

Yes we have to replace the wire, they must have had larger birds in it. We want to cover half of the top section as well for some shelter.

Good idea. It might be a good idea to cover in two of the sides completely & face them to the worse weather side.

I'd give it a coat of paint too :)

But thats just me!

Yes it definitely needs a paint job. I can't wait for it to be finished, my hubby tells me I have no patience...(Laughing out loud)
