Posted September 12, 200717 yr I searched this breifly, but l couldn't find anything specific... Just wondering how often should l be giving Sherbet millet? I'm guessing its like bird "junk food"? So in that case, its best in moderation? Currently, l am cleaning her cage every Wednesday night (so tonight!) and l put some millet in, but not again until the next Wednesday night. Just wondering if this is enough/too much/could give her more? Thanks guys
September 12, 200717 yr Mostly millet is used for treats and training food, unless of course it is part of their normal seed mix.
September 12, 200717 yr Author But l'm not training her, she just likes to eat it :budgiedance: Is too much a bad thing? She bites me now, everytime l put my finger in she bites, but then about a second later hops onto my hand? I don't have the time to train :budgiedance: As long as she's happy and healthy, thats all l'm worried about.
September 12, 200717 yr Millet is a fattening food. It's kind of like giving a child sweets all the time
September 12, 200717 yr I give Merlin millet 1x a week but not the whole spray I will cut it since he would eat the whole thing which is not good.
September 12, 200717 yr My vet said that millet isn't fattening. When Ozzie was sick i made sure he always had a millet spray and the vet questioned my reasoning as millet is often used to diet birds. Talk about confusing! I give my indoor birds a spray of millet once or twice a week, the spray is shared 5 ways (3 budgies, 2 tiels) so they don't get too much each.
September 13, 200717 yr :bluebudgie: Actually, if you read the labels, millet is already present in a lot of seed mixes. My guys, all species, get millet once a week.
September 13, 200717 yr :bluebudgie: Actually, if you read the labels, millet is already present in a lot of seed mixes. I would even say it's present in ALL seed mixes, i am yet to see a mix with no millet. I think finch/canary mix has more millet in it than most, and it's used for dieting fat budgies.
September 13, 200717 yr I buy it in bulk, including tax, about $34 for this amount of good quality millet and donated to the avian rescue.
September 13, 200717 yr Author I don't have the sprays, l use the stem looking ones? I hope you all know what l mean Its like a little tree, it has a stalk and it has lots of "branches"... best way l could describe it!
