Budgie Swings

i was looking through some photos of Louy on my sisters phone.

And i saw one of when he used to go to bed on his swing.

It was so cute when i put the blanket on i would here the jangle of his swings bells.

But he dosnt any more i think it might because he's to big but im not sure he never uses his swing any more how can i encourage him?

What type of swing is it? I have 2 swings and Merlin prefers the natural branch swing I made because it is thick, long and it is not too close to the top of the cage. He sleeps on it for the night.

Those plastic swings are a little small. Maybe thats why and also as the budgie grows and his feet do too...the perches he needs to be comfortable on need to be a bigger diameter. On the plastic swings the perches are usually narrow diameter and ridged plastic....not comfortable for a growing budgie :budgiedance:

:ausb: Wooden, two of my budgies used to smash themselves into a one man swing at night so I bought them a larger, wooden, two bird swing. :greenb:

I have a plastic toy one with a bell on it no one uses it anymore. Merlin likes the one I made for him or I also bought him a ladder that has swishy plastic rungs and I hang that and he sits on the top rung. This is now his favorite spot.

Think of it like .....its you trying to squeeze into a pair of shoes that doesnt fit anymore

I find that my budgies always preferred thicker perches too that makes them more stable at night and a rope perch or a soft plastic type perch they love because it is comfortable on their feet.

I think she will like the 2nd one best because that is the soft plastic for their feet, my Merlin loves his ladder that is very similar too that. Pretty loved it too.

Lukie likes to sleep on his swing as it has a mirror. He cuddles up to his 'friend' in the mirror and they go to sleep 'together'. I wrapped some cotton rope around the perch part of the plastic swing, as I also feel it is a very uncomfortable perch and not thick enough. Just to be awkward, Lukie started to cling to the side plastic bars of the swing, which look just as uncomfortable! I thought that maybe I made the perch too thick so I redid it and now he seems to be happy with it. He likes thing perfect does our little chap! (Laughing out loud)

Vonn your Lukie sounds like such a little character!! :)

I have a big round rope swing that my budgies love, its the first swing they were ever interested in :D I have a wooden ladder swinging from the roof of the cage and Bobby liked to sleep up there on the topmost rung...

Elly I love the sound of your "squishy" ladder!! You wouldn't be able to post a picture of it would you?? :P

hmmm so many intresting ideas! All great.

But i have never seen a rope or woden swing so i might make him one and ill put a little mirror on it too, he will really love that.

He went on it a few nights for the first time for like a year!

I saw lots of his buisness under the swing :D.

sounds wonderful, be careful with the mirror if he doesn't move off the swing just to eat and not play with other toys or he becomes attached you may have to limit the mirror inteaction.
