Posted July 11, 200717 yr Here a toy swinging perch that my birds in the aviary absolutely love. Anyone can make them. Too easy The showbirds love them and they even use them to sleep on.
July 11, 200717 yr Author Ha ha very cool. Did you make it yourself? Not these ones. A girl in one of our clubs makes them and was selling them for $8.50...cheap enough. But I just bought some materials to make some more as the birds go nuts over them. The large hook hanger allows it to swing. They get a kick out of that.
July 11, 200717 yr Merlin absolutely loves his swing I made for him Kaz. Pretty never got the point of a swing until Merlin came along and showed him how to do it (Laughing out loud).
July 11, 200717 yr Hi, That is great. will make one for my budgie's I have only got one but I am planning to get more this month. catch you later, Kirsten
July 14, 200717 yr Hi Kaz, brilliant idea. All of my birds love their toys and swings and they would be easy enought to make. Feathers.

July 14, 200717 yr Yeah Great Kaz, I remember seeing them years ago, but never thought about them, that's a good idea, it's like a permanent tree for them, permanent at least till they chew it away...(Laughing out loud).
July 14, 200717 yr Hey Kas I made one months ago, very similar, actually I made it up out of my head one day. I hang mine off one of the perches at the front of the flight and I hang seed sticks etc off the different perches. My birds love it too. Here is an old picture of one of the flights with one hanging in the front, it is much bigger than yours and I have a big swivel hook which when the birds land on the perches it turns around.

July 16, 200717 yr HI I can't wait to have one. I have two younger brothers who I know will be excited to make one for me.
August 31, 200816 yr Kaz just interested to know the exact dimensions to make one....like what is the thickness of the round perches (guessing 12mm or 15mm diameter), length of the perches each side, what is distance between two perches and what is the size of the middle center square wood (my wild guess is around 1.5 inches). Also whether holes are first drilled in the center square wood and after which these round perches are glued to it? Thanks, Karthik
August 31, 200816 yr Author The wood used for the main part is approx 2 inches square. The dowel can be any thickness you have. The holes are drilled so that the dowels push right through and are tight in the holes. I cannot measure right now as it is night time Edited August 31, 200816 yr by KAZ
September 2, 200816 yr Thanks Kaz and when you have some free time during the day time, please let me know the perch sizes.
September 3, 200816 yr Sorry for troubling you Kaz, also need to know the distance between each perches. Thanks, Karthik
September 6, 200816 yr Not at all to feel sorry Kaz, nothing as such in urgent and whenever it is possible for you, please kindly check and let me know. Thanks
September 7, 200816 yr Sorry for troubling you Kaz, also need to know the distance between each perches. Thanks, Karthik I doesn't matter! Just do what ever you think suits. As long as there is enough room for them to sit without hitting their heads on the above perch it will work. Myself and many other have made things similar to Kaz's, and they all work out fine.

Thanks Maesie, in fact I was not sure how much we need to put for pet budgies, since I have only wild budgies and no tamed once. Also personally I feel it is always better to get complete things clear before we do. Okay my assumption is that 3 or 4 inches distance between perches should be fine and also 3 inches in length of perch each side is sufficient. Please correct me if I am wrong Edited September 7, 200816 yr by Karthik

If you have 3 inch length on perch either side, that would fit 1 bird confortable, 2 at a squeez. You could make it a little longer if you like... say 4 inches.
September 8, 200816 yr Author Sorry it has taken so long to reply to sizes as I have been very busy at home. BUT The full length is 18 inches. Top of main wood to first hole is 4 inches. Hole is drilled right through for each of the dowels and the length of the dowel is 17 inches for all three which create six perches. Reason they are so wide is more than one budgie sits on them. Main wood is 1and a half inches square. Dowel used is a shade over half inch. From top to second or middle hole is 9 and a half inches. The top to bottom hole is 15 inches. Hope this helps
