You have a sky blue normal.

A olive normal. - no I just saw the next picture she is a olive dominant pied.

Your new one I have stated I think she is a greywing sky blue.

That cage I would say would be the smallest for the three. If you are able I would look into a larger one, one that is wider than taller if possible. The placement looks fine to be involved in the family and I'm sure they love talking to (or over ) the TV.

I agree with Nerwen you need a bigger cage that is too small for three budgie. Here is a link to our Member's Cage Set-ups, many of us get good size cages on e-bay for excellent prices. Click for Example of Cage Set-Ups

A cage should have room at least for them to fly from one side top the other. Yours only has somewhere they can perch for sleeping

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa161/F...50/100_0636.jpg

If you think about their wingspan and room to flit about a cage, that cage has room and setup only for climbing up to the top perch and sitting there. Its too crowded for 3 budgies and no way to fly.

What is the basket ( or finch nest ) and other things on the floor of the cage ? :)

Sometimes its a hard thing to choose your first cage and when you add more budgies it makes things difficult. Sometimes a cage that looks nice isnt always the practical kind for the budgies. And, more often than not, if you take advice from petshop or cage suppliers they give wrong advice too. :D

I don't want to seem mean so please don't take it wrong it is not a good cage for 1 budgie because of the things that Kaz stated. I would invest in an aviary style cage that is longer and they can fly back and forth as budgies can do not fly up and down. :).

AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! THE PET STORE PEOPLE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! i know that is going to be what everyone is think once i tell them this. The ppl @ the pet store said that the cage and supplies were PERFECT for budgies. I think they have a different definition of "perfect". After I bought everything, I came home and started looking at different sites for parakeets (also how I found this forum) and I saw that the things that I got are wrong for keeties. Actually, me and my mom are investigating on which cage model is really great for parakeets that not TOO expensive. My mom said she will be willing to pay up to $150.00 for a cage, if its large. Elly, I didn't take that in a bad way. I know you all don't mean bad. We are trying to buy a cage that is wide more than tall. I just found out that the FINCH NEST is not the right nest for a parakeet. My mom and I are going to the pet store to get right nest; well if i remember right, they didn't even have a parakeet nest! I guess I have to go PetSmart instead, even if they are a little more expensive,or Petco. And all of the stuff that is on the ground, I actually don't know why they are on the ground, I think I woke up, and they were on the ground. Hhhmmm.

And I also have another question: Is it okay to have scented Yankee candles in the same room? I have heard that Glade and Scented Air Sprays aren't good for them. But what about Yankee candles??

Edited by 3-birds-2-luv

You can always find some really good cages on ebay. You should ask Elly, where she got hers from.

I don't know about the candles sorry.

However I would wait to get a nest box, even if your new bird is a male s/he is too young to breed. They need to be at least a year old. A nest box with two hens is a disaster in the making. Hens become very violent towards others when they take ownership of a nesting site.

$150 sounds like a nice budge to look for a cage.

Candles are debatable and because budgies respiratory systems are sensitive if you burn candles it should not be in the same room at all or not at all.

I got my budgie cage off of e-bay I would go there first because PetsMart and Petco are too expensive. My cage was only 100 US and I could if I wanted to fit 4 budgies comfortably maybe 6. I only have 1 in there now and Merlin is in the Hilton :hap:

First things first ................3-birds-2-luv

1. You need the right size space for your birds.

2. If you intend to breed please take the time to learn things first and you will make less mistakes and impulsive purchases at the petstore. Read lots, check out our Frequently Asked Questions section on here, learn heaps and ask more questions before you jump into breeding and or adding more birds.

3. Make sure your birds are more than 12 months old. Even if they kiss and feed each other, preen each other and have the correct colour cere does NOT make them old enough until they really ARE old enough.

4. Make sure they have been on the best diet available to ensure their health

...what are you feeding them now ?

5. You should NOT put a nest in a tiny, small cage with 3 budgies !

6. A nest is NOT the first thing you purchase with new budgies and a new cage. A nest is not a bed for a budgie either and should not be put in a cage until ALL conditions including ages are right. When a nest is called a "finch nest" it means it is NOT for budgies. The size should have given you an idea. The fact that a finch nest is cheaply purchased won't make it the right size for breeding budgies.

7. Only TWO budgies in a cage for breeding purposes not three or you are asking for trouble. A larger cage, not too small.

8. Your questions on breeding on your other topic show that you intend to breed...and buying a "nest" indicates you are trying to breed already. Saying that you are going back to buy another nest tells me you are aiming to breed NOW.

....how old are the budgies ?

....How educated and prepared are you ?

.... have you allowed for the probability of emergency vet fees for anything that may go wrong ?

....Are parents willing to spend money on and take you to a vets when necessary ?

........and there is much, much more :D

Listen to those who are experienced, be patient, wait till you are an experienced and successful budgie owner before you are a budgie breeder...... learn ( from clever members here if you will ) and we WILL help you with advice. There is a lot of heartbreak involved when young people take on budgie breeding without fully realising the consequences as we, on this forum, see everyday. Breeding budgies isnt a hobby for young people without consequences which can be both heartbreaking for you and life threatening to the budgies. Please be prepared to listen and learn.

Kaz is very right on everything she said. We have a wonderful section called Breeding Journals here you can read through the journals of our members that are just starting off to those who are experienced. One thing that I saw is that new breeders or experience there was something that they had issues with each clutch.

It is easy to put budgies together and get eggs but it is responsibility that is needed to ensure a successful clutch, deciding if you will keep the babies or if you will adopt them out, making sure you have the money in case they need special avian vet trips, hospital cage for sick babies or parents....

We are glad to have you on this forum :hap: there is so much to learn.

Well..see...when we got the stuff, we didn't have this forum to read and learn from, so we thought if was easy. We thoguht you could just get anything. Cause I think my mom put a tupperwear container in their cage (a little container) ful of water so they could bathe in it (once again, didn't know very much). Then if dried out and they started putting food in it. Then I was cleaning the cage out, and I looked in the container, and there was an unfertilized egg, that was cracked open. So, we thought that they would lay in anything...hmm. I KNOW that my 2 females are more than a year. I have had them for more than a year. But the other one; we just got him. He is still young, for sure.

I just fed them apples and I am planning on getting them some carrots and other greens and fruit. They also have seeds, too.

The FINCH nest has taken up a lot of space, and I just took it out. I think they are lots happier.

And yes, I figured that out too. I look inside of the finch nest, and think, "That will NOT be enoughg to hold the hen/cock and eggs. Its kind of hard to believe what I was thinking when I bought the stuff. I didn't even read or investigate or anything! Wow.

I don't want any of your to think that I am trying to be rude. Because I not! :hap:

since I learned that the new bird I got is a baby, I am not trying to mate them. So I am keeping all 3

together.

Well, I won't be buying a nest NOW. But I will probably get a nest in a few months or something....

I can't believe how much I have learned from this forum. Just think, if the "new" bird was old enough to breed, and they DID breed, the clutch probably would have had a good chance of NOT surviving; Since I wasn't the educated on breeding and such. Oi...

Has anyone heard of REALLY good cages that would be a good size for my birds, thats at an affordable price?? What about the CAGE CONNECTION T5 FLIGHT CAGE?? or the HAGAN VISION BIRD CAGES?? Are those good ones? What is a good model for the hagan vision cage? Ive heard of the L02 is good. BUt haven't seen a picture.???????????

your not being rude :hap: and we don't mean to come over that way either. Please ask questions that is the only way you will learn. I learned all of my budgie knowledge from this forum and the members on this forum past and present. :D. I continue to learn.

:hap: Thnx

This is a great forum to learn from, and you will, as long as you ask the questions. We are happy to help you here. Try not to rely on anything petstores tell you...they are just there to make a sale too.

In your search for a bigger cage, aim for a really wide one so your birds can fly across the cage from perch to perch, and with enough depth to give them space. Maybe less height. That vision cage, has been bought by others who ended up hating it. I cant remember why. It looks funky and modern, but I dont think its practical.

Cheers Karen
