Posted July 7, 200718 yr To prevent the egg from getting stuck in the female, what type of things, other than good seeds, should I feed her??
July 7, 200718 yr A good healthy diet is need year around. Fresh food such as carrots, boiled eggs mashed up, sprouts, lettuce (not iceberg) peas, apple (not the seeds) pear and corn are all okay to feed. There are many reasons that can cause a hen to become egg bound, age (too young or too old), lack of calcium and sudden drops in temperature can cause issues with egg laying. If you wish to look into breeding please read as much information as you can first, there is great information in the FAQ area and the breeding area of this forum.
July 7, 200718 yr The best kind of greens are green leafy vegetables, like spinach, as these are a rich source in vitamin D which helps to fix calcium in animal's bodies. This is particularly good during breeding. Eggs are also a good source of calcium and protien.
July 11, 200718 yr How old are the budgies and do you have a place for them to breed, or are you planning ahead to much further in the future ?
July 11, 200718 yr As I stated in my previous post dark green leafy vegetables are good for calcium. So spinach is a good one. You can buy cuttlefish bone and calcium iodine bells too.
