Posted July 3, 200717 yr I have been commissioned to do a triple breeding cage. With the things I have learned I am doing a new style. I think it's better than the ones I use. I am waiting for a third front and the metal trays. I also need to do the concaves in the nest boxes. But with luck all will be completed by this weekend. As you can see I have used square perches to help the breeding pair. Also there are three different sized perches to excersize their feet. $150.00 delivered to the new owner.
July 3, 200717 yr Daz, When you life the lid on the Breeding Box I notice you have a piece of wood there, obviously to stop eggs or babies falling out... How do you clean the box with that piece of wood there? I have been commissioned to do a triple breeding cage. With the things I have learned I am doing a new style. July 3, 200717 yr Wayno..that bottom bit of wood slides out as well. I have some of Daz's nestboxes too. They are great.
July 3, 200717 yr Daz make the nest boxes to fit a icecream container in & give those concaves the flick. Makes it easy to keep the nest boxes clean.
July 4, 200717 yr Author Macka got a call from Dave Ganzer. He was at Bob Smiths yesterday. Bob has the concave until the chicks are old enough and then removes the concave and replaces it with a timber version of your Ice cream container. Full of wood shavings. He then can clean the concave ready for the next round or pair. I am thinking of going that way as all my nest boxes are made to the same plan. Same as yours Kaz. :budgiedance: Edited July 4, 200717 yr by Daz
July 4, 200717 yr :budgiedance: Daz,I have never used the concave, the breeder that started me off,was not useing concaves. &had`nt used them for along time & said the icecream containers, were the bees nees & I have`nt any to try anyway. But looking at the photo that Feathers has posted of her chicks on concaves, appear to go, okay on the concaves.I might have to aquire a couple of concaves & try them,
July 5, 200717 yr Author Macka I have a good friend that has a true saying. "If it works for you, don't change it" I have always used concaves with a hand full of wood shavings. Some hens throw the whole lot out, some part and some none. But it works for me so I'll stick to it. :fear

Daz the concave may be okay in the container, that a hen scratches out all the shaveing.I have 2 young hens that have done the scratch out trick. :
July 5, 200717 yr I have almost finished my first two banks of triple breeder cabinets with sliding dividers also Daz. Tomorrow should see two units ( X6 cabinets ) finished and ready for birds. Using your nesting boxes, of course. I may trial some of Mackas ones with the icecream tubs later on as well as I know others using that system. At the budgie show on Sunday, I was asked if Ken was making my breeder cabinets. BUT Ken doesnt know straight lines, level or square...so the answer is NO He is my assistant only IF I need him. :fear
July 6, 200717 yr They looked great Daz, but they don't look like they are divided (sliding) departments. Didn't they want the divided type with the sliding divider door thing Daz. What are you using for the bit across the bottom, steel on aluminium. I like that idea as they can't chew t it up like the wood ones. Edited July 6, 200717 yr by splat
July 6, 200717 yr Author They didn't ask for the deviders specifically. I would need to do them in Melamine and they are quiet a bit more. Here they are (nearly) finished. Just waiting for one more front. Trays are in. The metal trays are rust resistant and pose no problems to the birds. No dropings can seep in to the trays and they are so easy to clean... There is only one problem. I love them so much I want to keep this set... Nest boxes are done and ready to go.
July 7, 200717 yr Hey Daz your trays look better than mine. It looks like you have little sides and backs on yours, where's mine look the same in material and the front but they don't have the sides or back. Where do you buy yours and if not rude of me, how much? Mine cost $8.00 each and I made my big ones myself.
July 7, 200717 yr Gee you're lucky Daz, none of the clubs around here do anything like that. Your Club sounds fantastic. Because For example I buy my wire fronts and trays from the pet shop. Even your wire frames are better. The ones I use you have to nail them on with u nails or staples, then you have the shitty job of pulling them out to clean the cages and then hamming them back on hoping you can match the holes up again The Victorian Society offers show cages and fronts, kits etc as I am sure yours does too but the clubs around her don't seem to offer anything than the membership. I really wish my club was like yours. Ah well can't have everything.
July 7, 200717 yr Splat,I think the reason, the clubs don`t have any of those things is,they have no call for them. Most members are established breeders. We did have afellow who would sourse things for anyone. The trouble you would get sick of waiting, the things to turn up,Splat I think if you ask there maybe some one who can point you in the right direction.I watch the ebay, you can pick up stuff at the right price. As long as you know what it is worth. :feedbirds:

I put a photo of cages I made on here a short time ago, where I use the little plastic turn things that are made to hold flyscreens in wooden window. They make it easy & don’t damage your timber. I don’t know how to direct you to the post, but see if you can find it.

I have given up asking. Gee I sound hard done by don't I. Gee you're lucky Daz, none of the clubs around here do anything like that. Your Club sounds fantastic. So You screw the little plastic things onto your cage and then put your wire fronts in place and then you turn your little plastic things to catch the wire. IS THAT HOW IT WORKS. Does it really hold the wire firm so that the birds can't escape. It does sound good and much easier. Especially half way through breeding season when you want to get in there and give it a good clean before the next lot of birds go in.
July 7, 200717 yr http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....topic=15686&hl= there is the thread by Norm. It's a bit hard to see the plastic turn things in the picture. But the work the same as the little turning tags on a back of a photo frame (although thicker.)
July 8, 200717 yr Author I am sitting back at the moment designing a new set of breeding cages for myself. I am also doing the new metal fronts and trays... Only thing is the wife would let me upgrade until the current ones where out... Damn I made them to good to wear out to quickly. Might sell them after this season
July 10, 200717 yr Author Well the breeding cages are complete and the buyer is picking them up tomorrow night.. Next Project???? Might be 100 show cages.
August 15, 200717 yr Author I have just finished 10 nest boxes for another breeder and have started two more triple cages for another sale. Photos to come.
