Posted June 25, 200718 yr So, little Figaro has finally arrived, and Konrad is totally excited! Figaro is a cuddly little thing, loves to taste everything and wants to sit close, close to Konrad at all times. Konrad is still getting used to the attention and the company, but so far it's gone better than I ever hoped for. Figaro was put into Konrads cage 2 days ago, and it was love at first sight (well, almost anyway). Figaro jumped straight up to Konrad, who was so chocked she fell off her wood perch, but after that it went a little smoother. Since Figaro can fly, he landed on top of the cage, and that wasn't very popular with the little lady. Konrad attacked his feet and made the angry dolphin sound, after all, she's the queen and wants to sit on the highest spot! Once Figaro came into the cage again it went a lot better, and they have been kissing, cuddling eachother and playing along just great. The biggest change is actually that Konrad eats everything that Figaro eats. I mean, no Kräcker/candy sticks for 3 days, whats going on??? I mean, it's a good thing, I didn't like that Konrad was picky about food and wouldn't touch the other stuff, but still.. such a great change after almost 2 years at our place, and within 3 days she is eating veggies, normal birdfood, boiled egg and whatnot. It's indeed wonderful. Konrad has also gone through another big change.. I'm starting to think maybe she was a bit depressed before Figaro arrived, even though we didn't notice it. She is climbing around like mad, even leaving the cage and jumping around, trying to fly with her little duck-wings and following Figaro. Since she crashes, I end up carrying her to wherever Figaro is sitting, but she looks so proud when she's sitting next to him upon the bookcase :ausb: Since this is only my second budgy, I'm far from an expert, but I'm starting to think that Konrad either was a lot older than the 8 weeks the birdshop told me that she was when she arrived, or she had a very traumatic experience behind her. Figaro comes from family that had their budgie couple breeding, and the babies was bought up together with a human family and had loads of fun, got a lot of flight training and he just gives a very stable impression. As an example, the day after Figaro arrived, he let me hold him on my finger and feed him some candy as well as stroking his belly. :angel1: Some media is included below, I hope you all enjoy it! June 25, 200718 yr Congrats on getting your newest addition. I know you were going back and forth on it. The one thing that concerns me is that you didn't mention that you quarantined your new bird from Konard. Directly from our FAQ section: Quarantine is the best way in protecting your existing birds from the introduction of infectious disease. It is also to determine whether or not the new bird or birds are diseased and then to treat the problem. The quarantine cage is where all new birds are housed and ideally it should be in a completely different room where there is no airborne or physical contact. Recommend days for quarantine are at least 30 days (1 month). Avian Vets recommend 90 days (3 months) for best results as many illness can lay dorminate. It is strongly recommended you quarantine! If you don't, you could lose all your budgies! Here is the rest of the article Quarantine Program (BBC FAQ) by Daz Figaro is a very pretty hen (you have he but I am sure it is a she). Love the pics and video.
June 25, 200718 yr Author Hi there Elly, yes I use quarantine, and Figaro wasn't allowed into Konrads cage before we knew that all was alright, no worries := I have mentioned that I planned the quarantine in another thread, but I forgot to mention it here. We were kinda hoping Figaro was a little boy... I thought he looked like a little boy budgie <-- Figaro Well, even if it's a she, they get along great, and they are totally cuddly. June 25, 200718 yr Hi Jenny, it is fantastic how well they get on together, seems like a great match to me Feathers.
June 25, 200718 yr okay GOOD to hear in the picture I see more hen then I do male because even though the white nasal rings are not there the cere doesn't look smooth and real pink. BUT maybe I am wrong...in the new picture it looks whitish blue.
June 26, 200718 yr Author Thank you both Oh, I really hope Figaro is a boy, but I guess it wouldn't matter too much if he ends up being a girl either.. as long as they go well together. I'm imagining that if they work well together now, it shouldn't be a problem to keep the two together if Figaro turns out to be a hen as well, or can that change when they are old enough to breed? And yes, I'm really happy that they got along so well! I was kinda planning to monitor those two closely for at least a few weeks, and separating them each night so they could sleep and make sure they wouldn't fight. It's almost the opposite, I can't get Figaro out of the cage in the evening, he crawls up close, close to Konrad and hides behind her, so I let them stay together. I'm not sure if we're imagining it, but I can see a couple of wingfeathers on Konrad... they are only showing about 1½ cm on each side, but still... I'm keeping my hopes up, perhaps love can heal everything? I'm so happy for my little duckling, she has finally found love Edited June 26, 200718 yr by Nharvi
June 26, 200718 yr not sure what you mean by damage them? But 2 of the same sex birds are an excellent choice therefore you don't have an accidently breeding issues .
June 26, 200718 yr Hi Jenny, I thought Figaro was a little boy, but it is very hard to tell with some birds until they are older. It is quite possible that Konrad's wing feathers may be growing, but if they are, it is likely that they will fall out again before or at the nest moult I'm so happy for my little duckling, she has finally found love The happiness shows, your posts are almost glowing with joy. Feathers.

July 9, 200717 yr :ausb: Those are FANTASTIC videos and pictures!! (I must overcome my fear one day of doing videos). I love how they preen and cuddle together like my lovebirds do, thank you for sharing!
July 9, 200717 yr Author Thank you for the comments I'm hoping Figaro is a boy as well, but it's hard to show the color properly on the video, since the quality isn't that great once it's uploaded on the web :ausb: Hopefully you could all enjoy some quiet preening and the joy of crawling next to a piece of broccoli anyway
July 9, 200717 yr They are both very cute :budgiedance: . I like your wooden playground in one photo in the first post - really nice ! Edited July 9, 200717 yr by Zebra
July 10, 200717 yr Author They are both very cute . I like your wooden playground in one photo in the first post - really nice ! Thank you, yea it's turning out to be a popular toy actually. Today I changed the cage, and took them both out, but since Konrad can't fly I made them a little playcenter on the floor with the playground, some hirsh, branches from outside with wet leaves and whatnot, and Figaro decided he would be a runner budgy today as well, I didn't see him fly once hahaha. I also like that you can remove and add toys on the playground as you wish, since there are a lot of slots to put them in. I bought it in Germany, I think it was made by Ferplast that makes all the other stuff for budgies over here.
July 11, 200717 yr That is a cool playgym. Yeah I've seen them over in Australia too. I know City pets in Brisbane sells them.
August 23, 200717 yr Author Hi all, So Figaro is starting to grow up... he is slowly trying to get the grip about the whole making babies thing, but he isn't the brightest :yellowhead: Here are some updated pics and videos on the two lovebirds Bad hairday for Figarol It's always the cheapest toys that turns out to be the best Figaro feels sorry for himself after Konrad turns down his "love" offer FIgaro finally got his irisring (it's called that in english too, right?). Also, see how they're both on the tiniest piece of wood in the cage :budgiedance: I think Figaro is trying to feed up Konrad so she is ready for babies =P Posing Doesn't it look like he's smiling? Fatty! Fluffy budgies Cuddles after they got back home from vacation Figaro shows his best side ^^ Figaro is checking out his new toy, Konrad is still catching up on sleep after the hard trial of being away from home. Konrad on the favorite branch And a little video of Figaro telling me how nice it is to be back home again. Please note the little feather flying to the right of him in the beginning, I guess he wanted to keep it :budgiedance: http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=52zu5hy The last video is a bit.. dirty. Well, at least Figaro wants it to be, but Konrad has a different idea about things http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=6app4l1 That was all for this round :budgiedance: Jen Edited August 23, 200717 yr by Nharvi
