Wierd Budgie

i was just wondering why my male budgie would be feeding my female cockatiel there is also two male cockateils in the cage

because he is weird....(Laughing out loud) One of the gals on the forum posted a picture of one of her tiels being fed by her female budgie. It was almost like the tiel was acting like a baby and begging for food.

Do you house them together?

He's got a crush on her :)

I had an Eastern Rosella once who had a crush on a Crimson Rosella, and another Crimson Rosella who had a crush on an old galah!!

It's good that they get on and are not at each others throats - that would be more of a worry.

yes they are all housed together except the parents and babies because it got to 1 degree last night i moved them from the big cage to a smaller one to bring them in at night

It is a really good idea not to house seperate species together as they can pick on each other and hurt each other and they have different dietary requirements too.

In a large aviary it is usually not a problem (as long as you don't mix prey species with potential predators!. Finches especially can be more comfortable in "mixed" company with not too many of their own species in some cases. Many modern zoos and bird parks have huge mixed collections in planted and landscaped environments.

The only issue is if you have a particularly aggressive individual, but that can happen even in un-mixed company. As long as there is enough space and cover (somewhere to get away from an aggressor) mixed species aviaries are fine IMHO.

As long as Dee keeps an eye on things to make sure tempers don't get frayed they should be okay together in close quarters for a short time.

Yes, but they may not be in an avairy

yes they are in an avairy 2 by 1 1/2 meters by 2 1/2 meters high built in and around trees they love perching on the natural branches. During the time that the lemon(budgie) started feeding her she laid 4 eggs the male cockatiel doesn't mind at all the three of them sit there together and lemon just feeds her. I have even wittnessed lemon only 5mm away from the front of the nest

has the budgie feeding the tiel just started?

yes after she laid the eggs i was a little worried about what was going to come out .But unfortunatly she stopped sitting on them. Idont know weather or not they cross breed but these ones have me worried

They can't cross breed so if they do the act (have you ever seen if they have) then nothing would come out of the egg.

My concern was maybe the tiel was sick and that is why she is begging for food but I think she is species confused personally.

You may want to separate these pair of lovebirds to see if the budgie will go after a budgie instead of a tiel.

I would say no big deal but since the hen is laying eggs this could become an issue that could worsen.
