Posted June 17, 200717 yr I was wondering if anyone has a budgie that talks and what does it say? I read that the budgie and african grey have both held the title for the most words at around 2000 or so words. Although the budgies arent as clear as african greys they are great talkers. None of mine talk yet but I am going to tame one of our new babies and hopefully he will talk for me.
June 17, 200717 yr Pretty talked he is now passed to rainbow bridge. He was under 2 and had about 5 phrases going.
June 17, 200717 yr Used to work with a lady whose budgie said 50 things and one our members, Una, has talking budgies, you might want to check out some of her posts. (her dog even says hello!)
June 17, 200717 yr Pippin talks. He has about 20 different phrases, including a couple he shouldn't have . His first phrase which I started with him when he was around 12wks was 'mummy's little chicken', and I just repeated it to him over and over and once he got the hang of it, all others were pretty easy. What I find really amusing is they pick up the tones in your voice. Some other of his phrases are: 'Aww you dirty bird' (that's from when he poo's on me), 'Mummy's precious', 'Kiss kiss' and then two kissy noises, 'Nasty Pasty', 'Rinky dinky stink', 'Oh he's a good boy', 'What ya doing bud', 'Hello chicken', 'Bossy boots', 'Hello beautiful', 'Oh he's beautiful', 'Little sausage', 'Tidgy pud' etc. It can take time, but the rewards when they do start to talk are well worth the effort.
June 18, 200717 yr Blinkie says a few things: kissy kiss, come here, gotcha kissy, Blinkie. Then he's got his sounds: farts, rasberries, kiss, dripping tap, and he mimics my laugh (usually when he's being naughty :glare:).
June 18, 200717 yr One of my baby budgies ( now aged about 7 months ) and who has been adopted to a lovely home is apparently talking heaps...many, many phrases. His name is Rocky and he is the son of Rocket and Shiloh. I will try and get him on camera real soon. His new owner is delighted. She says he's the best budgie she has ever had :glare:
June 18, 200717 yr none of mine can talk. I tried to teach them but notthing. BUt I set up one pair and if they have babies I hope they soon can. JUst amazing how smart budgies are even though they are so little. Check out these ones http://youtube.com/results?search_query=budgie+victor
June 18, 200717 yr Rinky Dinky Stink? :budgiedance: Don't ask me where I got that one from, I just found myself saying it to him and it seems to be one of his favourites :budgiedance:
June 18, 200717 yr I have some talkers, although they don't say much. Blossom will say 'hi there' 'pretty bird' 'whatcha doin' and some words or phrases that I have no idea what she is saying....she tends to intersperse budgie sounds (clicks and such) with her words. She has to be in the mood to talk, and when she does you really have to listen as she talks softly and very quickly. Sky says 'I love you', and Skittles will wolf-whistle once in a blue moon. I've never seen Blueberry talk, so I can't say whether she has picked anything up or not. They were all older (over 2 years old) when they started talking, and it's not anything I have ever made an effort to teach them. It's funny, but I've only had one male that ever learned a word or two - with that one exception my talkers have all been hens. I've never had one that knew any more than a couple of words though, but there are several people on this board who have some that know a lot of words and phrases. **Pippin has got some great phrases! What a riot!**
