Featherless Spot

Hey, I just took a look at Bud (Whom laid Egg #8 yesterday. Oi oi oi!) and I noticed she has a spot on her chest where she has no feathers. There's a lot of pin feathers in the area though, so I was wondering, is it normal that there's some naked areas while a bird is molting? Somehow I never noticed one in the last molt she had...

Don’t worry Michelle…it’s normal for a laying hen to pull some feathers out of her chest, you will most likely find them in the nest. They do it either to give the eggs more contact with their body heat or to get the nest ready. Shouldn’t be too many days now before your first chicks if all goes well.

Really??? Well that's a part I didn't know. I thought she was nervous or having a really bad big molt. I was far from thinking it's on purpose!

Thank you
