Devastated

I am so devastated, my best cock bird that i have bred so far has been injured, he was fine an hour ago, It looks like another bird attacked him but no one has blood on them, I have put him in the hospital cage for a bit of warmth and watch him closely.

He took out first, this year for young bird in his spangle class plus his mother died while sitting on the eggs. Yesterday his full brother had a bad eye, i found a seed in it and it was very swollen and ***** and closed over but it is a little better today.

These 2 birds are the ones on my signature. I relly hope he makes it.

That looks horrible. Shouldn't you make him see the vet for a checkup?

I hope he'll be okay.

He looks to be finishing off his moult. It could just be a blood feather that has broken. Give him a clean with some fresh water and a small bit of antiseptic and if there is no head injury, i'd put him back in the flight.

I have one in the flight that did it on Saturday night. After a bit of disturbance I found a bloody head on a Spangle Light green. It looks worst than it really is.

He still has pin feathers. I did clean him up a bit with antiseptic and warm water but wasn't game enough go to far but I just did it again and you could be right Daz, there is a small hole under all the blood but it looks the size of a small grain seed.

Once his head dries I will put him back in the flight.

When I was looking for the culprit the only blood I found was on the side where the perches are so his head could of been itchy and he has rubbed it and one of the blood feathers came out. :excl:

I think Daz is right about the broken blood feather from a moult. Always looks like a massive amount of blood. Best of luck with him. He should be fine.

 Oh dear, hope he makes out okay. If he had a major head injury, he would be spinning around in circles or down so let's go with the experts and say it is a blood feather. :greenb:

He looks like he will be okay. I took him out of the hopital cage and put him in a old show cage untill his feathers dried, he is now in the flight and looks fine. Was worried.

When you get a blood feather, like that, get apair of tweezers & remove

the blood feather & just run the cold water on his head or a sprinkle of pepper & he will be as good as gold.

I go out to my aviary some days to see that sort of sight and it's never anything bad. Usually just a blood feather that's broken. It ALWAYS looks ten times worse than it really is.

Macka the worst i've seen was at a table show. An Albino in a show cage broke a blood feather... what a mess. As said it looks worst than it is.

sounds like everyone knows what they are talking about since they have experience it . Just watch for signs of sickness and keep us updated :D

Daz was right it was a blood feather being my best favorite bird and I do not like the sight of blood I panicked. He is good as gold now happily flying around the flight, but his head is still a little stained from the blood.

My first thoughts were that he was attacked as they are all ready for breeding but I don't want to put him down for a couple of months yet but as I said they are all very cocky and getting very aggressive towards each other . ***** little devils.

how is the little guy doing?

He is fine, flying around the flight like he owns it. Thanks Elly for your concern, he is such a lovely bird. I got such a shock when I seen like that the other day, I guess I frieked out if I had I stayed carm I would of worked out what had happen but I was so sure he was attacked because they were fighting (doing the pecking order) the day before because I put 2 birdss from the breeding room back in the flight. :D

don't worry I think anyone who never saw it would have freaked out, I know I would have.

I'm so glad the little guy's okay.

He is such a beautiful bird, it doesn't seem right to see him injured.

Thanks,

Rob
